I need factory steel wheels, NOW, for a 1967 XL with factory disc brakes. (have to clear to calipers).

I have been working on my car(s) for over one year off and on and now that someone wants to sell a house nearby I have been given 30 days to have them both running.

Soooo.. I have to affix both antique tags that I have for each and then run them enough to move them every once in a while.
I do believe that I will just park them in my front yard, sideways, and since the paint is crap now, I may go ahead and rattlecan two letters on each side of each car...An F and an U. Then switch them from side to side in the front yards (yes plural) just to really piss them off. Since they will are both tagged and insured anyway. I don't ever have to take them off the property.
It does put a damper on pulling either engine out though.

I really NEED those wheels. Any help??? (Nearby?)

late model donuts still have to clear big brakes, and look good and ugly :)

check local codes- *used* to be if it was covered they couldnt say anything about it(unsure if after its been flagged, probably too late- but if you need to pull the engine in a few months, see if a car-cover will do).

I can kinda see where folks dont want a junkyard developing, but they are getting too heavy handed. there was a new one proposed in Ohio recently to discourage 'home scrappers' from parting out cars- the way it was worded though, any unservicable vehicle or something like that- didnt mention inside/outside/covered/nothing- just unservicable meant they could cite you then tow it away 3 days later??? my mustangs been in my garage since 1984 in pieces, but if they ever showed up to want in, I'm afraid there would be some trouble... big government- especially bigheaded authority given to local level wannabe usmarshalls can breed bigheaded goofballs that just want to flaunt their power...

but if they wanna go legal-beagle, theres probably a million ways around it... put a planter on the bumper- call it art, put a inverter in it- call it a backup generator, put a cover on it- they need a search warrant to even look at it... gotta be a way to get these guys to just mind their own business... theres a guy down the road from here with dozens of cars scattered around his property, his home looks like a fortress with a big 8' wall/gate, cant see more than the house roof and cars all over- but its his yard...around here noone messes with folks, but it could change at any time if they get someone new out wanting to make a name, or if some new million dollar house a mile away goes NIMBY...

I know the bolt pattern is the same for the '06 mustang I had. So as long as a wheel will clear the kelsey hayes calipers I am good. I am at a loss to tell you all the truth. It is NOT a junkyard. I have parts in the garage (with 3 Harleys, so that is not an option), on my screened in porch out of sight, and even in two rooms I have taken over in the house that my wife has no use for. (I love her) I have my XL on stands with the spindles off to work the control arms and brakes, and have the rear wheels off to work the axle seals and brakes. she's on 4 stands but uncovered, of course you can see the holes in the roof. The interior is totally gutted. Now the parts car is more or less complete, minus the front and rear bumpers and grill (they're in the house :). Oh, I have the good set of tail light assemblies taken out of the parts car as they are good re-chrome candidates. BOTH cars are head to toe in my driveway. I have antique tags for BOTH cars , just not mounted because no rear bumper on one and was getting ready to pull it off the other. BOTH cars are titled, insured, and tagged. This guys said " But they have to be running vehicles"..... They are really pushing their luck. does anyone know for SURE what wheels will clear that are cheap? I would hate to get them and be SOL.

I've been thinking about getting a City business license for historical automotive documenting. That would cover limited disassembly and assembly within non-industrial areas while I photograph and write about them, and the cars are a requirement to the home business. I've noticed you've been posting a lot of documentation here lately to build your resume' also.

PSIG - Please define .

I found a work around as well. Look at the last sentence of sub-section B. Realize the definition of "notwithstanding" - = In spite of"..

Excerpt from VA State law pertaining to inoperable vehicles.

prev | next
§ 15.2-905. Authority to restrict keeping of inoperable motor vehicles, etc., on residential or commercial property; removal of such vehicles.

A. The governing bodies of the Counties of Arlington, Fairfax, Henrico, Loudoun and Prince William; any town located, wholly or partly, in such counties; and the Cities of Alexandria, Fairfax, Falls Church, Hampton, Lynchburg, Manassas, Manassas Park, Newport News, Petersburg, Portsmouth, Roanoke and Suffolk may by ordinance prohibit any person from keeping, except within a fully enclosed building or structure or otherwise shielded or screened from view, on any property zoned or used for residential purposes, or on any property zoned for commercial or agricultural purposes, any motor vehicle, trailer or semitrailer, as such are defined in § 46.2-100, which is inoperable.

The locality in addition may by ordinance limit the number of inoperable motor vehicles which any person may keep outside of a fully enclosed building or structure.

As used in this section, notwithstanding any other provision of law, general or special, "shielded or screened from view" means not visible by someone standing at ground level from outside of the property on which the subject vehicle is located.

As used in this section, an "inoperable motor vehicle" means any motor vehicle, trailer or semitrailer which is not in operating condition; or does not display valid license plates; or does not display an inspection decal that is valid or does display an inspection decal that has been expired for more than 60 days. The provisions of this section shall not apply to a licensed business which is regularly engaged in business as an automobile dealer, salvage dealer or scrap processor.

B. The locality may, by ordinance, further provide that the owners of property zoned or used for residential purposes, or zoned for commercial or agricultural purposes, shall, at such time or times as the governing body may prescribe, remove therefrom any inoperable motor vehicle that is not kept within a fully enclosed building or structure. The locality may remove the inoperable motor vehicle, whenever the owner of the premises, after reasonable notice, has failed to do so. Notwithstanding the other provisions of this subsection, if the owner of such vehicle can demonstrate that he is actively restoring or repairing the vehicle, and if it is shielded or screened from view, the vehicle and one additional inoperative motor vehicle that is shielded or screened from view and being used for the restoration or repair may remain on the property.

There are a bunch of the 16x7 '98-02 Crown Vic cop wheels on eBay, they also apparently came on base-model Explorers and as spares in higher-line ones, etc. These are the conventional-offset wheels. They may or may not be what you want appearance-wise but they're a much better choice for tire quality/availability than any 15in wheel. Check car-part.com for something close to you if necessary.

'03-11 had much more offset, don't know the exact number.

Most S197 Mustang wheels look like crap on older cars IMO, and they're ~45mm offset so unless you've got an inch and a quarter thick bolt-on wheel adapter they're going to look like not just crap but ghetto crap, four inches in from the fender opening, and probably not clear the suspension anyway.

There is another explanation in a different section that states shielded meaning not visible from ground level standing towards the property.

cool- only thing I'd be a bit concerned with, is as they already tagged the cars as sitting out, the *might* still be able to do something rotten... I'd stop and talk to the building inspector and verify if you can get the notice nullified by covering them up- but be certain the notice is nullified, so someday if they drive by and the cover is off they cant call the towtruck using the current notice as 'prior notification'... cover them up, get it signed off, so at least they have to start over with notification/time laws on your side if some NIMBY type decides to call them on you. eventually they should get tired of the whiney neighbor making the calls/wasting their time.

move to south Georgia... I'll give ya a set of 15inch wheels.
We don't have any stupid laws.
When I fire up an engine to break in a cam, I get the locals coming over to drink beer and check it out. No one calls the law.
When I get pulled over for speeding, first thing the cop says is "Cool! whats that a 62 or 63? how fast does it go?"

Lined up in the driveway seems to be part of the problem. Tarp garages may be a lowest cost option to remove them from view, but those structures usually are not permitted to be erected in the front yard set back. Car covers would certainly be the cheapest way to disguise them. You could always pull the calipers and use any wheels to move them around, or into the back yard, but you`d only have rear brakes.
