Re: New project 62 Convertible
Okay, here is where all you smart guys come in.
This is where I am at:
I am dismantling the car now and making a list of the stuff I will need to put it back together. The convertible has no motor or trans and I'd like to put a 390 in it later. The parts car has a 289 and I can use that for now just to get it on the road while I build a motor. I have limited space where I live. My thoughts were to tear down the car and start on the suspension, frame and rear end. I am terrified to take the body off the frame. I have heard horror stories from by buddy and I'm afraid if I take it off the frame, I will never, ever................. ever .....get the doors to close again.
My dad just had his 71 El Camino (one owner) redone by a guy who does really good sheet metal and paint. I've seen his work on two cars and it is show quality. He will do my body and paint.
Originally, I was thinking to do engine first as I have always been taught to do motor before paint so you don't mess up the paint taking the motor in and out. But My dads friend did all of his body and paint first and is now assembling his car.
What do you guys think?
