Just gonna keep this a ongoing thread with lots of pics. I bought my 66 from a guy in GA about a month ago. Had to tow it home to Alabama!! It is currently not running. It has a 390 motor in it.

Re: My 66 Fastback Project!! Ongoing thread.

First thing I had to do was install a new oil pump. Previous owner said this is why it wasn't running. I did it with the motor in the car. Just removed the fan and jacked the motor up to get the oil pan out. It's alot easier to do this stuff with the hood off!!

Heres a pic of the crankshaft. I did some searching and it looks like having a copper coated connecting rod is normal, if there was a flaw in the original rod. Copper helps to balance the assembly.

Old vs new oil pump. I went with the Melling high volume oil pump.
My 66 Fastback Project!! Ongoing thread.-imageuploadedbyag-free1377980451.855562.jpg

While I had the oil pan out, decided to clean it up a little and paint it Ford blue.
My 66 Fastback Project!! Ongoing thread.-imageuploadedbyag-free1377980565.689601.jpg

Here it is installed! Looking nice.

nice car- one of fords prettiest bodies IMHO.

never heard of copped plated OEM rods, found a video- guess they saved some FE rods that way on occasion back in the 60's

Uneven wear was on the old pads because of a bad drum. I ordered new drums, pads, and hardware.

Re: My 66 Fastback Project!! Ongoing thread.

I also put new inner and outer wheel bearings in. It was a piece of cake with my press. The press paid for itself on the first job I used it on.

I put new wheel studs on while I had everything taken apart. My 66 Fastback Project!! Ongoing thread.-imageuploadedbyag-free1378865538.206332.jpg

Here is the finished product!!

No problem. I am working on the rear brakes and bearings now. Waiting on parts to come in the mail. In the meanwhile, I will be cleaning up the parts that I'm going to reuse. I'll post pics when I'm done with it all.

Re: My 66 Fastback Project!! Ongoing thread.

These are the shocks i've decided to go with on the front. I haven't sat the car back on the ground since i've put them on.
My 66 Fastback Project!! Ongoing thread.-imageuploadedbyag-free1379041029.828568.jpg

I purchased a new/reman master cylinder to go on the Gal. For 17.99, and lifetime warranty, can't be a bad decision. Plus the one that was on the car is shot.

Here are a couple of pics of the old master cylinder.

My 66 Fastback Project!! Ongoing thread.-imageuploadedbyag-free1379041356.505629.jpg

Here is a pic of it removed. You can see how nasty it was in there.
My 66 Fastback Project!! Ongoing thread.-imageuploadedbyag-free1379041379.956785.jpg

After bench bleeding the new master cylinder, it was ready to be installed.
My 66 Fastback Project!! Ongoing thread.-imageuploadedbyag-free1379041459.856760.jpg

The only problem I ran into was that the shaft on the mew master cylinder was too long. I had to use the shaft from my old one. For anybody wondering what master cylinder to use for dual reservoir braking, I got one from a 1967 Galaxie. It bolted right up. I don't know what vehicle was the donor for the master cylinder that the previous owner used.
New vs old shaft swap.

Here is a pic of the new master installed.

I am ready to bleed the brakes!! I don't have the rest of the rear brake system put back together yet. Waiting on parts delivery.

Keep up the good work, I can't wait to get back to working on mine. Yours is the same color as my 7 Litre, well most of it. I like the pics of the progress too, I'll use your thread as inspiration while i finish up the 460 build that skipped to the head of the line in my garage.

Thanks. I like to keep lots of pics so I can remember what was there before. I love this color. When I get it painted, i will repaint it the same.
