63 Head Liner install

Has anyone installed / replaced there headliner, looking for suggestions and how difficult the install will be? Does the windshield have to be removed for this? Was discussing last year with a couple Mustang owners and they were under the impression the windshield would need to be removed.

Thanks for any tips, suggestions and help

Re: 63 Head Liner install

I believe a 63 is similar to my 61? If so, then the windshield does not have to be removed to install the headliner! However, the rear glass will have to be removed to install it.
Easy to make sure by removing one of the garnish moldings at the top of the windshield near the rear view mirror. If there are little triangle shaped teeth poking through the liner material holding it in place then the windshield does not have to be removed.

Re: 63 Head Liner install

I'm getting ready to do my 63.
When I took it all apart, I found the center section supported by a color coded set of steel rods that were anchored in holes down the sides of the car. The entire perimeter of the headliner was stapled to cardboard strips that had been stapled to the steel roof perimeter. The front section of the roof only had a few short pieces of the cardboard due to the mounts for the sun-visors.....because of that, the headliner was glued to the steel and wrapped around the top lip of the windshield "tray". In other words, the headliner is stretched around to the outside of the roof above the windshield before the rubber gasket and windshield were installed.
