The. 59 Edsel dash looks awful IMO . I believe these were made in Canada and shipped overseas , don't think that many were made after researching them 2 years ago . I don't think its a English model as there is no side repeater light on the front wing (fender).

Yep, looks like an Aussie one. That is the dash they used down here on the '63 and '64. If the reverse lights also flash for turning, then that would be it.

Hmmm...that's a matter of opinion! Most American car enthusiasts that I know here in the UK prefer LHD over RHD every time. It's just more American and therefore authentic. Only journalists on the non - US friendly publications keep harping on about RHD being preferable, but you would'nt expect them to know any better!

RHD Galaxies, all built in Canada, were indeed sold new in the UK - complete with those UGLY leftover '59 Edsel dashes and strange 'up & over' exhaust manifolds too. Mick Jagger famously had a Blue '64 Convertible in the 60s just as the Stones started to get big.

Any historians interested in reading a contemporary RHD road test should track down a copy of 'Motor Sport' magazine, September 1964, picture attached.

(p.s. my '64 fastback is a proper US LHD car, built in Texas 9 July 1964. I'm goin' to buy it a 50th birthday cake soon!)

What were the roadracers, e.g. the Jack Sears, John Whitmore etc. cars that raced against the Jags back in '63-64 built from? Were they LHD or RHD?

I suppose I could do some googling but I thought it'd be an interesting topic for discussion...

Re: Super Rare right hand drive 64 Galaxie

I met Jack Sears a few years ago. Friends of my parents knew him and we had a good chat one Christmas. Lovely bloke. Was happy to tell tales from his time racing in the 60s until we all ran out of wine. I was a bit awestruck, but I'll remember that hour-long chat for a long time.

Anyway, I think you'll find that just about every racing Galaxie was LHD. As for the desirability of RHD... they're not. In the UK, proper American cars are LHD. Same out here in Australia. Sure, you can find many RHD Galaxies here in Australia, but the true enthusiast will seek out a left-hooker every time.

You're right, it would make a very interesting topic. I've got a small number of magazine articles, collected over the years, about these cars. May copy one or two pics & post them soon. But to quote from a couple of 'Classic Ford' magazine articles about Jack Sears & his Galaxie racecar published in 2000/01...

'The famous Galaxie - the brand new car that the Willment team had paid Holman and Moody in the USA to prepare - didn't arrive in the UK until May 1963. Fitted with a 450bhp 7 - litre V8 engine and weighing about 3600 lb, it looked, and was, a fearsome beast'.

A more recent magazine article, from 'Classic American', May 2013 features a restored Holman & Moody '63 Galaxie which was 'one of four special lightweight racers built by Holman Moody in America which were sent over to race in Europe in 1963.' (All LHD, by the way). Three came to the UK, and the one featured in the article originally went to France, but is now in the UK. Amongst those who drove the cars were Dan Gurney, Jack Brabham, Denny Hulme and Jim Clark. Very interesting stuff!

It's also amazing how these racing Galaxies seem to be embedded in the memories of a lot of Galaxie admirers that you meet at car shows. Some of the races were shown on BBC TV back in the day, I can remember watching them as an impressionable young boy! The Galaxies would always roar off into the distance, but the Mini - Coopers would get 'em in the turns...!

It s definitely an Australian one I have one just like it, bit better condition tho.
As for right hand drive over left one is not better than the other some guys like the left hooks, mine is right and I prefer it that way.
With price tags of $12,000 plus, to change them to right a lot of guys just put up with the lefts but as I said it's really personal preferences.

Gee all that and a new seller to boot! No title either, depending on where you live that could be good or really bad.

Never put off today what you can put off till tomorrow..By then some other sucker might do it!

I contacted seller...

car was built/assembled in Ontario Canada

It was owned by Sportscar racer Steve Behr

very good point......
some states here don't seem to provide or require a title....

but only require a bill of sale when changing ownership.....
