Unhappy need idea for replacement glass and channel

Ok I'm in the thick of it replacing my anti rattlers and glass channel in my 4 door 62 gALAXIE 500. Got drivers side front door done. Moved to the front passenger side got all the old runs out and went to remove glass and discovered the glass was just sitting on the channel the one the roller runs in. This is where it get bad. The rubber that is fastened to the roller guide is gone. If I go ahead with the instalation the new anti rattlers and window channels will be so tight that the window when it winds down will not follow the roller channel down. I thought about trying to find some u shapped rubber that would snuggly fit the glass and screwing that to the upper portion of the roller channel but the channel is so rusty its falling apart.
I've looked at denniss carpenders c&g ford parts I all but know its going to be fruitless to try to find a vender that carries replacement parts so ANY IDEAS?. I'm going to try to take it to an automotive glass place and see if they can help me out. The problem is if I cant find the rubber that will fit into a somewhat modern type channel and really go in tight I may be wasting my time.

Has anybody been through this before? I'm all ears for some suggestions. The glass is 1/4" thick. The bite is I only need about a foot and 1/2 or so. Really bummed out!

Hello ezacres,

I am not familiar with the 62 body style, but it sounds like you are looking for glass setting tape, which is actually a thin sheet of narrow rubber that squeezes and retains the glass in steel channel either for a frame or mounting.

The glass setting tape usually comes in three different thicknesses, as for your application, you might have to experiment with all three sizes.

Hope that helps.

Re: need idea for replacement glass and channel

you can also use sikaflex https://www.emisupply.com/catalog/si...E#.Wmz1nDdG1PY

put a bead in glass channel , set the glass in , allow 24hrs to fully set up...
when set up it's just like rubber ...
super strong bond when cured....

Re: need idea for replacement glass and channel

Well I ended up finding some glass setting tape cleaned the glass really good with alcohol , cleaning the somewhat rusty glass channel out and squeezed it so as to make it really tight on the glass. I used a rubber mallet and bumped it in and it worked.
I did all 4 doors with new anti rattlers , new division bars and all new glass channel. Mine was the type that had a stainless bead on the out side and now my iritating rattle of the glass is now history.

Thanks guys for your ideas. By the way I got all my supplies at C&G ford parts. I already did the door seals and vent window rubber so I should be set to go. The hardest part was getting the door pannels off and back on. Its not really a hard job a little tedious putting those stupid staples in but an average mechanical minded person can do this job so don't be afraid to tackle it.

Thanks again I never had any dealings with glass on a car before.

Hello again,

Glad that worked for you. I forgot to mention but maybe you found out, that wetting the glass and glass setting tape with rubbing alcohol makes it slide really easy together without using an impact force then the alcohol evaporated rather quickly and the rubber is locked in place without potential to shock shatter the glass.

Cheers
