69-70 windshield wiper question...

I am confused at what I am running into on my XL. ...maybe someone out there knows something different. ...on the 69-70's the wiper arms are a flat shaft with a short "nipple" on them for the wiper replacements to slide onto. However, I am finding that all of the plastic wiper setups today can't handle the torque of when the wipers shift sweep directions and essentially try to lay the other way. The plastic is just giving way. Does anyone else run into this issue?

I have a '69LTD parts car with stainless steel blade replacements still on them (rubber blades are bad) but that has a metal connection mechanism, that can handle the change in direction of sweep. I don't know if I can use that as the replacement blades from today, probably won't fit today.

Any thoughts? I could try posting some pics later.

Thanks,

Mark

Hi Mark on my 69 I'm useing all original equipment with new factory type replacement blades. I forget where I got the blades but they aren't hard to find (Mac's or DC pbly). If nothing else factory looks way better than that plastic $#!t.

I got the whole metal blade assembly at Napa Auto Parts. Cost is only about 12 bucks. Most have them in stock.

Re: 69-70 windshield wiper question...

Ok, those are the stainless ones that I have on the parts car. I'm trying to recall what kind of blades I originally ripped off of my car. This is only the second set that I have put on. I do recall that they were metal. I don't recall that they had the metal clip tho.

I think that even the metal blade "replacements" all have the plastic clips tho.

Thanks guys!

Mark

The replacement wipers I bought don't have the plastic clips. If I remember correctly they're Anco brand.

No the plastic clips that are the problem are where it connects to the wiper arm. ...pic to follow.
