So I am considering the purchase of a convertible or Fastback 1970 XL in the next 12 months. I sold a 1970 LTD a few years back when I was laid off from a job.

I’m wondering the pros and cons as I’ve never owned a convertible. I live in Michigan so it’s really a summer car only. Overall plan is for a two tone blacked out hood, 429, possibly stick shift, mostly cruiser, not a serious drag car but I’ll probably stroke the engine, add some meaty tires (possibly minitub?). I like the mean looks of the Fastback, but the freedom of going topless is appealing. Any input would be appreciated, thank you!

We have a 1970 XL convertible over here in rainy England. Been caught out a few times with the rain, once it started raining went to put the top up and it stalled half way up (fuse tripped) and we started getting wet. Drove a bit faster so that the rain went over the top. The interior is all leather anyway, so it just dried off with towels.
But I would say the benefits of the soft top out way the drawback of getting rained on. Don't take it out in the rain generally, but it does catch you out sometimes it is England.
