My 1965 galaxie 500

Having an issue. I just replaced the wiring harness from my alternator to my regulator. I replaced it because I wasn't getting the charge from the alternator to the battery. I checked my alternator and it was putting out between 15 and 17, but I would check at the battery and only getting between 11.7 and 12. My alternator dash light stays on and my gauge (trip gauge) shows less than 12 while running. I've cleaned grounds, double checked connections, and looked over everything 2 or 3 times. Could I have a bad gauge or something under the dash?

if the battery is connected to the regulator, and there are 14-17 volts available at the reg. they are available at the battery. you have an open circuit

more than 14.5v...sounds like a bad regulator. that's too high.
i'd swap it with a known good if you have one laying around.
if you have to purchase one, I don't think they're expensive.

I had a similar issue a couple years ago and mine turned out to be the regulator. It was one of those Solid State ones and it was fried inside. Put a new one on and started charging.
