I need some UPS answers/help...... please?

I have a buch of packages I have to send out over the next 2 weeks starting tomorrow. There is no UPS or FedEX place anywhere near me
(15-20 miles away) but there is a US Post Office 2 miles away. USPS is very expensive on larger items and international shipments. Will UPS come to your house and pick packages up? Do you have to weigh the packages before they come or will they weigh them at their place and charge it to an account? How do I go about doing this if it can be done since I'm not a business but rather a nobody citizen?

One more question, Will US Postal Service ship boxes if they are not plain boxes(I.E.: Victor 460 water pump shipped in the Edelbrock box it came in or do I have to have a plain box to ship in. I have always used plain cardboard boxes in the past but since my large box collection got thrown out during the move to NY I now only have boxes with product manes and pictures on them. HELP!

Greg Cook? Chilly? Anyone?

Well, Im anyone I guess. UPS usually won't come to your house unless you are a business or ship a lot, it costs a little too. USPS is kinda picky about the packaging, they did some stuff for me in a non USPS box but weren't happy about it. I found it's easier to just bite the bullet & drive on in. Is there a U-Mail-It type of place nearby?

You can open online a Fedex account in about a 1/2 hour and they will be glad to pick up. I think it is $8 a week you use the pick up which I factor in my shipping to other. The shipping of gound/home delivery is cheapest for heavier packages that is what I do, it is really simple, you can email me if you need any help. Or you can call UPS if you are accepting Paypal you can ship UPS right from paypal and I think the same for a fee they will pick up I have just had better luck with shipping Fedex Ground.

I have recently opened an account with UPS. They come and pickup packages @ my house. The packages need to be wrapped , addressed and weighed. You can see the details on UPS.com.

The packages have to be wrapped for ups? Say I have a box that was for Huggies diapers and I want to ship a distributor or a camshaft in it, would I have to cover up the shiny Huggies pictures and logos? USPS is right by my house but UPS and FedEX are much farther away and a hassle with having my 2 kids with me and a truck that gets gallons per mile instead of miles per gallon(V10 is thirsty ) When UPS comes to your house, do you have to know the exact weight of the packages or just close like with a bathroom scale? Do they weight them for you and then charge that to your account? Wrap the packages?

You need to be pretty close on the weight no guesses, A huggies box would be fine (the receipent may have some concerns ) if you are insuring over $100 all must be double boxed or if there is a claim they will not honor it. Maybe if you have a digital bathroom scale it may work just round up to be safe.

No, you have to weigh them. The drivers do not carry a scale and you can't get a shipping tag or schedule a pickup without all the info, including the weight and package dimensions. If your bathroom scale is fairly accurate, it should be fine. If it's a light item, weigh you and then weigh you and the box and subtract.

Open an account on UPS.com and enter all the info and schedule a pickup. If there's a travel charge to get to you, it'll be listed. Likely not. You will need to print out the shipping tag on a printer (inkjet or laser) and tape it to the box with clear tape. Doesn't matter what kind of box as long as the big UPS barcode tag is on it. Make sure there are no other addresses on the box. They will buzz by and grab it.

Cool, thanks guys. I'll open up an account and start shipping larger items more than 10lbs with UPS. This 85lb 4.3" stroke Scat crank is too heavy for USPS so I have to ship it UPS with the pistons, rods, and other stuff included seperately in two other boxes. Headers and big items will be easier with UPS too. My next batch of auctions coming up this week will be shipped using UPS. Thanks again

Rick, I didn't think you did much of any shipping. You could be anybody but I'd like to think you're a somebody

If they're in your area, DHL/Airborne has on-line setup and will pickup for a $3.00 pickup fee. Their prices are much better than UPS and their ground delivery service is typically 3 to 4 days.
