bought a carb off ebay, got it for $79.90 . the seller sends me the total and it's $116.73! $12.xx for packing(i knew about that), $23.xx to ship the carb from cali to florida( ups ground! ). wtf. emailed and asked if that was correct and he says thats what ups charges to ship it. this is why i don't use ups, bunch of rip off artists. oh well, guess it's still cheaper than a new carb. glad i didn't win his auction for the torker intake
That chews ass!!!
Happens on e-bay all the time...
Bought aN elephant painting for my mommy last year for Christmas... Won the bid for $0.50, the biaaaaaches charged me $20.00 for shipping from Idaho to Utah... 300 miles... Left a positive but chilling feedback for them to watch the "shipping prices" the tube arrived at my mom's house with postage affixed of a Dollar Twenty-nine!!!! $1.29!!!
I hate it when ppl do that!
I charge aproximates and send refunds of any monies where they paid more than a quarter over cost to ship! I can't stand dishonest people.
The post office here, or maybe it was ups, one of them told me that unless it's over 5 or 10 lbs it is usually cheaper to ship usps than use ups. So unless it's heavy or the person requests ups I don't use them. I've seen a lot of things I would have liked to have gotten but when they ship ups or for other reasons the shipping would be high I pass it up.
I sent 2, 350 chebby heads weighing 47 lbs each! For $less than $30.00 each!! I charged the guy $60.00 in my listing but gave him an $11.00 refund with the heads because it didn't take $60.00 to send them. The total with delivery confirmation no ins. was $48.00 for BOTH! And these assheads want $20.00 to ship a PS2 or generally anything that weighs less tha 5#.
I sent two Dart heads to Canada for less that 30 bucks! I bought an old Chiltons manual for $5 & it cost $20 out the door! USPS was $5 & he charged $10 to wrap it in paper. I check the ad to see if I'm getting raped before I even bid.
Yep - I hed a 351C head shipped here from Houston UPS ground. Right at $20. Not bad. I just bought a fuel filter and the seller hit me for $8 shipping. It went USPS, so we'll see when it get's here. UPS nad/or Fed Ex are usually the cheapest.
Also - you could offer to send a shipping label to the seller with the check or MO. If they bite, open an account at ups.com and create your own shipping doc. Just print it out and mail it to them - they stick it on the box and give the whole deal to any brown truck or take it to a drop off. You pay the exact amount with any insurance you want and it's no hassle for the sender. AND, you have the tracking number and will see when the item really hits the system.
i use fedex ground for all my shipping, don't like ups. i've sold about 85 things on ebay and always charge actual shipping. i just sent a 42# package to brownsville texas from tampa fl area and it cost $16 fedex ground.
Yep, gotta watch those shipping charges. Sounds high to me. I ship both services with lal the ebay stuff I've been selling and depending on the size of the carb it shouldn't have cost much more than $10-15.
There are some real "characters" on ebay selling items for .99 and charging $20-50 shipping and handling. It's legal because they posted it in the sale somewhere in all the bs descriptions. Some folks don't read the extra verbiage and miss it. They get stuck later after they win the item. Idiots are out there doing their best to rip you off.
I've seen alot more of that the last year. There's a reason for it though, the Ebay selling fees keep going up. I used to be able to sell guitars for 5-10 bucks, now it costs me 20-35 or more, depending on value.
What some guys are doing is say, they'll have a $200.00 guitar (for example) and list it as $150.00 S&H with a $50.00 opening bid. Still get your money, and pay far less in listing/final value fees.
Ebay however, has already figured THAT one out, and are taking steps to stop it... although I can't imagine how they'd do that.
