Ford's New Problem

Being a Ford nut,I try to sell everyone I know on buying them.That seems to be working out less & less.

I got both of my sisters to go look at the new Edge Ford last month when they were car shopping.They both loved the car but didn't buy it because of price alone.It seems the new car buyer today is fixed on price only.They bought the new Saturn Vue for ten thousand less even though the saturns looks and handling don't compare to the Edge.

I took my wifes good friend down to our local Ford dealer and rode with her in several Ford models.She ended up buying a Saturn strictly because it was cheaper.

I'm certain now that todays car shopper is value-price minded and Ford is going to lose its market share if they don't lower the price of all of their models.

I hope your Saturn dealers are better there that they are here. They suck here. Seams the early Saturns up till 02 were pretty good but it has been down hill every since. I have 2 customers who have own Saturns for their last 3 cars and will never own another.

Well, The Edge and Vue are NOT in the same catagory. Its like comparing a Lincoln to a Pinto!

I would expect her Vue is the old model? Im certain of it.

The (automatic) 2008 Escapes' base MSRP is almost 2 grand cheaper vs. the 08 Saturn Vue (they are competitors,ALA same catergory). 3 grand cheaper if she can drive a manual transmission.

And I could of given her an X-plan pin that would of saved her a few more bucks.

So in reality, Your thoughts are absolutly wrong. But then again she most likley has a 07 model and I am looking at the latest 08 models. But yet, You did not specify.

So where is Fords pricing a problem?

I don't know what models they bought but my baby sister has had problems already with the ignition switch on hers.

lose market share ???? at the current price of $ 7.90 per share I would say Ford doesn't currently holds much of the market place at all. Ford doesn't look that attractive to investors right now with a 4th quarter per share value of $-.33

Our first new car was a '98 Hyundai only cause they were the only dealer that would sell us a car when we didn't have a lot of credit history.
We then traded it in on our Ford Supercrew so we had something to tow my car with when we moved. No other place would even deal with it as trade in cause it was a Hyundai. My sis ended up buying a new 2002 Hy and loves it. It now has almost 300k miles on it and the only problem she had was recently with the crank timing sensor or some odd ball thing and that it got backed into by a log truck at the mill. Oops.
When we got ours you could buy one a year old for $3000 but not anymore. Guess they aren't considered as disposable as they once were and the prices have gone up for new ones.
I'm the same though, i've looked at the Focus and the gas mileage vs price and mileage on the Hyundai and I prefer the Hy. Guess i'm one of those price people also. The handling to me isn't as important as the gas mileage and dependability which we and my sis has had with the Hy and we didn't with our Ford truck.
We won't be trading the truck in either on a new one because of prices also, it's cheaper to get the newer '04 up engine than it is a new truck and I like the body styling of the '01 better than the newer F150s.

My better half was sick for six months after I traded her 2001 Supercrew with sixty thousand miles on it for a 2004 Supercrew.She loved that '01.

We have about 80k miles on it now, couple cross country trips and other than the plug problem it's been a great truck. We will need to fix the windows sometime as the passenger side is noisey going up which it has been for a long time and now the drivers side is worse. We haven't really looked in there to see how it all works in there yet. Reglued the driver side window in not long ago but even then didn't think to investigate, especially that side as it was quiet til now. Sounds like a gear slipping on one of those plastic strips with raised slats on it or something.

Deb, how hard is it to remove the door panel. I have to replace the mirror on the passenger side. Mailbox on a snow covered road.

It wasn't too difficult but doing it without breaking the plastic tabs that hold the control panel is almost impossible. We need to get another one now. I believe the trick was to lift/pry straight up and very slowly but we still managed to break one. That part has to be removed first to get to a screw or two that's under there, that's if you have electric windows which seems like that's standard equipment almost these days.

Correction on the control button section, pry up on the end towards the front of the truck first as there are catches at the other end that go back under the armrest end. I had to look and have Don show me to be sure how we did it. There are screws all over the place. After they are out just lift up on the panel.
