Can be inspiring for project cars, like Corvette Summer. Which films do you like to put in the DVD player when you aren't working in the garage, maybe the occasional non car movie too?
Not a great car movie, or chase scenes for that matter, but technically, interesting.
Buddy did electrics on a Bond movie, title i don;t know, Bond was Pierce whats s name, anyway they used an Astin Martin & Jag coupes for an ice chase scene,
Bob my Generator buddy tells me the cars just weren;t fast enough,so the Director had a custom shop pull the Astin/Jag mills & install done up Ford 5.0's, full frames, the works! Spent like 250K & car costs, for what, a 3 minute chase scene. Bob tells me, Both cars went into some storage unit somewhere!
Bob had a full mag. article on what was done to them,m just can;t put my hands on it, was a great read
You want to see a good car movie noone has mentioned ...Moonshine highway. It is about moonshine runners out of the mountains , old start of nascar driver and fbi trying to catch a moonshine runner driving a hot rod lincon. Also noone has mentioned Thunder road
Not really a car movie, but you have to feel sorry for Garth's Pacer. The '90s were a strange time in some ways, and not just because Ford was exploring an oval theme to their styling related to the company logo.
There are so many and I don't wanna be a posting hog, so.... I'll just mention one that "does it for me":
Red Line 7000 1965 James Caan et al
If you're Ga-Ga for Galaxies and that time period, it's a must-see! There's at least one scene in this movie that may make ya drool in your popcorn or nacho chips, and you may have to ask your spouse to leave the room in case you don't want them seeing you "de-evolve". Go watch it ....I won't say any more, so to not spoil it.
Not exactly a car film, but "The Blues Brothers" went over budget because of all the cars they wrecked during the chases. The scene where they drive through a mall wasn't in the original script; during production, they happened upon a mall that was going to be demolished, and wrote that scene into the script.
Not a car film, but I did see Green Door in the back of a rented limo years ago. VHS was so high tech back then, mind you, so was electronic ignition, lol.
Ya'll DO know that the '55 Chevy in Two Lane Blacktop is the same on used in American Graffiti...... I read some where of the mechanical changes (thinking intake changes but really fuzzy on details AND the movies now) done to the car but dont remember where I found the info......
One really special gem is Used Cars (1980) starring Kurt Russell. Columbia made the mistake of releasing it too close to Flying High (Leslie Nielsen). Everyone went to see Flying High and overlooked Used Cars. The few people that did see it, like myself, loved it!
How about this one? Never saw it until today, took a good hour and a half from workrelated duties....
I'll play on my saxamaphone to my saxpack next time
Watched Rush last night, although its all F-1 racing, not our beloved Am. V-8;s, Ron Howard certainly captured the Feel & sounds of those European hot rods shifting a 10K!
turn up the sound, lovely!
Anyone seen the new one , Don Prudhome & ???, oh jeez, Snake & ?? someone will know, its just coming out here, anyone seen this one yet?
And, not mentioned yet, Heart Like a Wheel, I think its called, life & times of Shirley Muldowney
Heart like a wheel is a good movie, been a long time since I'v seen it. I'v looked all over for the Snake vs Mongoose (Tom McEwen) movie and can't find it anywhere.
Ronin has some great chase scenes,up there with Bullit
