Did you ever solve this problem?
I'm getting ready to install a new seal in my 65 merc cyclone. It would be great to get some more information about how you solved the problem. Thanks
I ended up hiring Safelite Auto, BUT will say my particular car was not easy to get the front glass in. Because I hired it, they told me I needed new glass, mine had a crack in it and they would not install. O.K.! That's my whole years funding spent on a new windshield, but it is nice! With that being said the first time they came out they ordered/received the wrong glass for my model, that was after 4hrs of trying to install with the owner and his best man ( who just happened to be the "dude" that sold his business to safelite). 2 months later due to ordering another windshield and my vacation and his, he (previous owner) showed back up. I will say he installed it within less than 2hrs. Also will say he struggled the whole way and ended up putting the top in first and then working the bottom, which is totally reverse how it should go in. Due to my model the glass wraps around the sides so there is a lot of geometry holding and fighting you.
I kept my old glass and believe we could have used it.
The local guys helping my I really think could have gotten it, but neither of them believed the top would have gotten in first.
Negative: my seal did not set correctly on the bottom center about 3". The installer just could not get the seal to go over the lip, but felt it was secure and best he could do.
Would I hire them again, YES very friendly and informative. I wish I would have video the whole thing, but did not ask.
Lots of patient and trying different methods, now that I've watched and assisted I would try it on my own.
