Help... Stupid question

So I have the father in laws friend changing the gears on my ford 9" and I don't have it back yet. Question is-- Is it possible to put axle shafts back in and put tires on to roll it around to get something out of my garage. Or am I going to have to see about getting dolly for rear end. Thanks in advance.

Re: Help... Stupid question

The shafts have nothing to stabilize their spline ends. Dolly it is. A floor jack could work if the floor joists is smooth enough...

Re: Help... Stupid question

I've done it.
Stuff some rags around the inner ends of the axles in the housing tubes so they don't flop around.
It's not ideal, but if you are only going to roll it out and back in again, it won't hurt anything.

Re: Help... Stupid question

If you are just pushing it around the shop, the wheel bearings are strong enough to handle it. Although I tend to do what Yadkin recommended, a floor jack not only rolls but allows you to steer.....that being said, the rag and PVC pipe idea are very clever.
