Porting progress

I'm having to wait for my Eastwood cartridge rolls to come in for the final polish but I'm getting close to calling these things done.

Little more work needed on the intake runners but they were big already.

Doing quite a bit of work in there.

I would be done if I hadn't had half a dozen other things break.

Looks very good. Don't get too anal about final polishing. John--Las Vegas

Re: Porting progress

Haven't got that far yet. The universe has conspired to throw absolutely everything in the world at me for the past 4 months or so including being ill and having to adjust some medications and start a new(expensive) one. I am on meds now for the rest of my life for how ever long it lasts.

I have spent a LOT of time with the grinders to get these heads right to the point that I got burned out on it and had to quit for a while.
The shop has assured me that I won't have any intake fitment problems with this work. They also said they would be able to measure and tell me what the cut will amount to cc wise before they do it once they get the heads in house. I'm hoping to get down to around 52 cc's because I am running hipo 289 pistons. The heads are good for over a .1 angle mill so I will have plenty of margin left if a future clean up is ever needed. They will also re-align the head bolt holes as needed and cut the dowel pin pockets deeper.

I did clay impression tests on the fly cuts and I have enough to do the cuts and still have good valve clearance. They said they wanted to see right at .1 inch clearance on the exhaust and could tolerate a bit less on the intake side at around .075-.080. I have that and then some after the cut.

I just need to quit spending money on every other which thing that needs to be fixed and get the heads to the shop.

Re: Porting progress

that will be good if you can keep it at 52cc or lower.i think mine came out to 54cc but my pistons are a complete flat top with no valve reliefs at all.

are you going to flow them also?

i had done a set of 200cc world heads a few years ago and i think they went in the high 280's and a little over 200 on the exhaust.

Re: Porting progress

I don't plan to flow test the heads except at the drag strip. I am going to cc the runners to see how I came out. I'm hoping my rig will pick up some et with this port job. They are going to do a 5 angle grind and I have Manley pro flo(race flo, did they change the names?) valves.
