Do I have a cam problem or a TPS Problem?

Car is '87 GT, 5.0 HO, unknown history, 116K miles+-. Didn't run when I got it. I did multiple replacements and it does run, but seems to miss, no power. Idle is rough. It almost sounds like its got a cam in it with the rough idle. Someone else deleted the smog pump, and there may be wires cut. I went thru some of the vac lines and plugged hoses where I found open ones. We just did a mass air conversion using the SD harness, and I found that someone had previously done that with quick connect splicers and removed the hot and gound wire splices for the MAF sensor, and the other 2 wires that should be moved to other locations had already been moved. I advanced the timing slightly and idle is up about 800-850 where previously, before the new computer, it would not idle without holding your foot on the throttle. Previous code reading gave a TPS indicator code. No TPS coe now, but still not idling or running right. Is the TPS the issue?? Or do I have another Problem to go looking for??
Thanks, Ron
