Re: saving another '65 falcon 2 dr wagon!

The donor cowl that I ended up picking up is going to replace the rotted out sections that I need to fix....today I ended up doing about 80% of the spot weld removal off of the donor cowl....back to harbor freight tomorrow to pick up another 3/8" cutter as mine dulled out....not bad for $4.99 and also saving a heck of lot of labor....removing a cowl off of a falcon or mustang can take anywhere from 3-4 hrs...so by my calculations probably about $200 saved

Re: saving another '65 falcon 2 dr wagon!

Finished up the donor cowl teardown today...nice I got a rust free CA cowl which helps and shouldn't have any wet feet issues for the future! I ended up slicing off the outer edges for the patch panels.....had to take off the cowl hats as they started developing pinholes which translates to problems down the line...best to fix it right and only once!

Re: saving another '65 falcon 2 dr wagon!

I ended up tackling the replacement torque boxes....ended up taking out all of the spot welds to use the outer torque box for both sides....went through a couple of spot weld cutters but got r done! Just need to rust proof the metal and she is good to go....the final pic is of me after drilling out all of the spot welds on not only the torque boxes but the cowl as well....priceless!

Nice to see some progress on the wagon. I was going to be a smart ass, I say no hard top, go get a stripped tent top, and go Fantasy Island on here and take the doors off...

Hey we all need a good laugh, man! I had a buddy who said to make it into a ranchero or a pimp mobile with a vinyl top

Re: saving another '65 falcon 2 dr wagon!

Man, that is a nice car - I am envious too - my wife and I had a 64' Falcon wagon that was our family car in the early 90's! I put a 302 and some nice wheels - drove from Colorado to Cali once for vacation. It was white and pretty good body - I bought it for $400 while in college.

But I was into 4WD at the time and sold it - almost every week either my wife or I say "Man, I wish we had kept that Falcon." It was the neatest car we ever owned.

Keep up the good work and Hang on to it!

Re: saving another '65 falcon 2 dr wagon!

Today I bought a standard wagon/ranchero gas cap for the grocerygetter...this is the one that matches the body lines of the rear quarter....these gas caps are getting very hard to find and quite expensive...they are approaching $200 in price

Re: saving another '65 falcon 2 dr wagon!

I found a '64 2 dr wagon parts car at LKQ in Clearwater,FL.....roof, cowl, tailgate was toast ,but I was able to get a hold of the ps fender splash shield extension, door lock knobs, '64 grille....also made a good friend yesterday in Kurt who hooked me up with a '65 falcon underdash a/c, ds heater vent assembly, and heater plate.....will be going back this week to pick up the front split benches along with the rear seats (they need to be reupholstered but that is a given) and also the emergency brake assembly....my emergency brake assembly got cut so it will be a nice replacement

Re: saving another '65 falcon 2 dr wagon!

Nice to see movement on this.
Why not snag a set of fox body mustang buckets or similar?
Benches are great for taking corners and ending up in the passenger side.

Well, then again, if you got your woman by your side...

Re: saving another '65 falcon 2 dr wagon!

This is going to be a stocker and a cruiser....since the '64 parts wagon has the seats still at the junkyard I am going to pick them up and bolt them in....I like the benches since they are split as well and would only need recovering....my dad put mustang buckets in the other '65 falcon wagon 2 dr which looked cool ,but it wasn't a direct bolt in (as a matter of fact he had to weld in a seat bracket)....No offense to mustang owners as I love mustangs as well but this is a ford falcon not a mustang....I guess in that way I am a purist!
