1966 Mercury Comet Cyclone with 427FE Project

1966 Mercury Comet Cyclone with 427FE Project. This is my second project car after completing my first one last year. This car will have a real 427FE 1964 Top Oiler block, C4AE6015 with standard bore that has already been pressured checked and magna flux.

James,
if this turns out anything like that Falcon it will be AMAZING. I hope to someday build my 64 like yours. Have fun and keep us all posted!

Thank you for the kind words Nate. The falcon project took almost 5 years but I learned a lot from the experience. I don't intend on taking that long with this one but I hope it is at least close to being the same quality. Actually these 66 comets are pretty simple to work on and there is plenty of parts for them.

Did you say standard bore? Man that must be one of the last ones (real Ford, that is) left. When you get pissed at it, try not to heave a 5/8" wrench through the windshield. Good luck and hang in, flyr956

I got it from the following guy on ebay a few weeks ago as his listing has expiried. Not only that he personally delivered the block to me all nice and clean (see picture in my starter thread). I live in Las Vegas and he had to make a trip here for one of his rental properties so he was kind enough to deliver the block. I'm in the process of taking eveything off the car so it can be media blasted. Btw, if you look hard enough you will find some of these blocks out there. Thanks.

Re: 1966 Mercury Comet Cyclone with 427FE Project

A little bit of an update. The car is "bare" and ready for the media blaster this week. The second update is that I ordered a 427 stroker kit from the following people:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...fvi%3D1&_rdc=1

The block will be stroked to 482ci with 10:2 compression. This will be a street machine/solid tappet with Comp cam which will be 260 @50 duration. Btw is anybody familar with Survival Motorsports? Thanks!

Udate! Here are a couple of pictures of the car at the paint and body shop after it was media blasted. It's actually in pretty good shape.

I need some opinions on whether I should paint the engine bay the same color as the car or just go with black? Any advantages or disadvantages. The color I picked is an extremely dark red Ford used on 1974 pick up trucks.

As well my rotating assembly arrived at my engine builder yesterday from survival motor sports out of Michingan. The assembly I chose is 427 stroked to 482. Thanks.

Re: 1966 Mercury Comet Cyclone with 427FE Project

The color I chose to paint this bad boy. It's from a 1974 Ford truck very dark red. The car is in the body shop now and I will give updates as they come in. Btw, I plan to use white striping. Thanks!
