Re: 65' Mustang GT
Its the end of the 2018 race year so it looks like a good time to give this old thread an update.
Capitol Raceways elevation is 118'. On 11/11/18 the Density altitude averaged -1200 all day. Mineshaft air can be a wonderful thing . . . .
30 Prostick cars showed at the track and many went home very happy! Lots of new PB's and we got the race in (a rarity this year.) The track was decent for most of us low HP guys but a little squirrelly for the faster cars with many getting out of the groove at launch. If the car went straight chances are it would run extra hard.
I did OK--actually I did great. Went 5 rounds and had the bye run into the finals but unfortunately said driver was taking a little nap in the main event plus the car gave a little spin off the line that we couldn't make up. I've been in the Prostick semi's several times but this is the first time that I made it to the final pairing . . .
As hinted above the car also gave me lots of new PB's. Best 60' of 1.35 with lots of 1.36's. Best 1/8 of [email protected], and my favorite on the same run a [email protected]! Most of the runs it was putting down over 700hp to the wheels (according to Wallace Calculator.) Not to bad for a heavy ass full interior small tire'd NA street car with factory styled steel wheels . . . . . Its still raced on 93 octane convenience store fuel (with no additives.)
The track owner took a liking to my car and had a field day once he knew how fast the "stock" looking Mustang ran. He talked to me a couple of times and told me I was welcomed back anytime . . . . .

and a supporting 9.69 timeslip:
I know that there was more ET left in it as I was killing the tires but was afraid to change anything while going rounds. Here is a video of the launch that had the 1.35 60'er:
I aborted the run as the 8.50 car next to me got out of the groove and left off. This was the first round of competition and I didn't want to risk the chance of breaking out.
The day after racing I put everything away and installed the full exhaust and street tires on the car. Went for a ride in my now certified mid 9 second street car. Just had to do it . . . . As radical as the motor is, it runs sooooo tame on the street.
Since my combo works well and fully meets my expectations, I'm only planning to do the normal maintenance items over the winter while the tracks are closed.
65' Stang Street/Strip. Dart 434W NA, Victor heads, G101A 4 Spd, 4:56 rear gear, on 93 octane pushing 3550lbs. [email protected]
