Re: Project "GuldenRod" 72 Gran Torino Wagon

the FCA mini Meet show ended and I had won a gift certificate to TGIF as won of the raffle prizes. and as i'm getting ready to load my car on the trailer up comes this guy and introduces me as one of the facebook members from our Torino facebook groups. He had been in NY and NJ on business with his company all the way from Tulsa, Oklahoma and drove over an hour to see some Torinos,Fairlanes and Gran Torino's and missed all the cars but mine.
So we loaded up my car and I treated him to a late lunch at TGIF Friday's with my gift certificates.
It was the least I could do for him traveling all that way and missed the show and all the nice cars. we stopped by my brothers house where I live
and talked for a while before he had to get back on the road and we had my dad take a few photos of us by my wagon on the trailer.

I'm the guy in Blue shirt and Ray is in the black

Re: Project "GuldenRod" 72 Gran Torino Wagon

update got a replacement trans for the wagon
Pan fill C4 just like the original but all rebuilt
gonna blast all the blue paint off the case as I don't like painted cases and want that nice aluminum it will be after I blast it
Might spray some clear over the case so it keeps it easy to clean and not stain the aluminum after

came with a new TCI flex plate and found it was a 11.5" bolt pattern 28 oz 164 tooth so just have to check my original and if the same will use the new TCI

Re: Project "GuldenRod" 72 Gran Torino Wagon

Got bell housing blasted clean

My redneck 4 post lift,LOL

Darn so close but yet so far. I removed exhaust X-pipe,mufflers,headers,driveshaft,starter,torque converter nuts, shifter and kick down linkage, speedo cable.all but 2 bolts on the bell housing and the F-ing cage nut on tranny cross-member is spinning and can't get the cross-member out of the way to yank the trans out. Sucks as i'm gonna have to cut one of my 7/8 wrenches to stick inside frame to get that bolt out of the frame

Gonna blast and paint driveshaft while it's out and might yank the rear axle out to blast and paint as i'm installing my Spohn Performance upper and lower control arms since I will be driving it and also want to blast and paint the coil springs as the rest of the chassis has been detailed with paint and looks good still. Also going to Blast and Ceramic coat my Hooker headers as the cheap paint they used all burnt off but I knew when I bought them that would happen so I ordered the ceramic paint and copper header gaskets which I have not used knowing the headers would come off again.

Here is my new control arms

Re: Project "GuldenRod" 72 Gran Torino Wagon

Got a new Shop in September so now will have a place to start my build on the custom 2 door panel wagon
It's 30x40 with two 10x10 garage doors and has twin post lift,4 propane heaters in the ceiling and 2 paddle fans in the ceiling to move the air plus has security system also.
There also is a 9.5'x30' garage off the back with small garage door

Re: Project "GuldenRod" 72 Gran Torino Wagon

Bought some parts for the car from a member of Fairlane Club of America
Rust free Sport hood with original factory paint that has been in storage for 35 yrs

Rust Free driver door

A nice passenger side Sport door panel and perfect black dash pad

last is NOS tailgate shell
It has dents on outer skin but can be straightened
At least it will be rust free

Re: Project "GuldenRod" 72 Gran Torino Wagon

Put my cabinets and paint bench under the loft I built

Eventually gonna move the bench in the middle over in front of the lift so can build a bathroom next to the loft I built

Had to put my 97 Explorer on the lift to try it out
Gonna be really nice having a twin post lift to use
I already pulled a body off a car to clean .paint and undercoat the bottom of floors then put it back on the painted chassis.
