  2. 1968 Fairlane 500 rebuilt 289 c4 trans 4 disc brakes lots of goods

Motor was rebuilt less than 500 miles ago. Everything under hood is pretty much new including engine rebuild, edelbrock 500 carb, master cylinder and power brake booster, brake lines all around, aluminum radiator, front end suspension (coil springs, shock absorbers, most new bushings, lower...

There is a bit of play in the steering wheel. I would like to fix this whenever I change my steering wheel. http://youtu.be/e7jzh9vXyPk
  5. Gas Smell

    Fairlane Pages
I found that the smell is coming from inside the trunk where the gas spout is. It seems to be coming from these 3 hoses or lines that are right next to the spout. What are these lines and how do I fix them from leaking gas out and making the car smelly?
  6. Updating '68 Front End

    Fairlane Pages
I found a few parts and kits, some of which are on eBay. I'll post the links and will appreciate if someone will look over it for me. I mainly want to make sure these are all the parts I need to update my front end. I found a front end kit for around $260, coil springs kit for $70, and there are...
  7. 289 - C4 Transmission Issue

    Fairlane Pages
Hi. I just had my 289 rebuilt from the top down - everything. The motor runs great! The problem is switching gears. It shifts from P-R-N-D-2-1 great...but, when I am in D, it doesn't want to switch through the 4 gears to accelerate. I can get about 25mph at 3000+rpm then drop from D-2 and...
  8. Idle through Gear problem

    Fairlane Pages
A decent tune up did pretty well for it. I'm going to a mechanic friend's house next weekend so he can dial it in better than I can. The idle issue was there before the head rebuild, but probably due to the same mis-tune issue. I had the heads rebuilt because I had a misfire on #7 cylinder. Come...
  9. Idle through Gear problem

Well, is it even normal for idle to drop in gear 500 rpm? I set the timing around 12* before tdc. It seems to be running and shifting smoother after that. I'm gonna run a vac gauge on the carb today and do a better tune up.

I meant matched the torque converter to the cam specs...I know it'll probably be a p.i.t.a job.

So, at this point, I'm thinking the previous owner that installed the cam didn't put ina torque converter. If this is the problem, what am I in for as far as cost and installation? I'll do it myself, but haven't installed one before. I don't know the cam profile, but I'm trying to get a hold of...
  12. Idle through Gear problem

I run vacuum advance to full manifold. I tried as you said and it seemed to idle a tad smoother. From P to D or R, it still dropped a lot from 900rpm to 450rpm. It held steady around there. I replaced the modulator and hoses, but nothing was different from that. I also thought my power brake...
  13. Idle through Gear problem

    Fairlane Pages
Symptoms are there whether cold or hot. I checked the modulator and took the line out today to inspect, and it all seemed to be in normal condition and working. Nothing was being sucked into the intake through the vac line nor was there a fluid leak. The choke stays wide open after the engine...

Brand new 4bbl Edelbrock 500cfm carb. I have looked for vacuum leaks but just rebuilt the top end with all new gaskets and such. Could this be a symptom of a bad vacuum modulator on the transmission? I'm wanting to check into it, but I can't get under the car until I get some ramps.

Idle through Gear problem - Trans Vacuum Modulator? I have a 68 fairlane w a 289, slightly bigger cam, and 4bbl edelbrock 500 carb. The neutral safety switch is bypassed with a wire running from the key switch straight to the solenoid. I believe my tach is a little off, but I ballpark idle...
