Re: 390 truck motor

Only thing that I read (quite some time back too) was that basically the engine only came as a two barrel, had low compression ratio so that it ran on lower Oc gasoline, and the conencting rods were a bit lighter, due to it putting out lesser H.P. then too.

Otherwise using correct era applicances, it ought to go on in.

Re: 390 truck motor

The truck engines are identical but have diffrent cam's and compression ratios like WIlly said.

I believe the rods are identical though... I'll ask my machinist tomorrow...

Re: 390 truck motor

Check the casting number on the heads and post it here

Depending on what it came out of, and the heads on it, you will need different headers or manifolds

No matter what, the truck manifolds will not work, so we need the casting to let you know what you need

70 Sportsroof, 427 FE/489 cid, TKO-600, 31 spline 4.10, A/C. modified Mass-flo EFI/reprogrammed A9L/CnC ported Victor.

Big daddy: you will need a Mustang oil pan, I would use 68 Exhaust Mans. Pass side manifold has a tilted down angle on cars, trucks are straight back. Or you can buy a 67 390 GT from me!!! Pretty much complete at not a thieves price. Have about 33 390's for sale, most of which are in 66-68 range. The 67 I have is the only one bored .030, the 9 other GT's are Std.
