Sudden Death G&R Progress

Been a long time since I posted on the car, so thought I'd give an update.

I've gotten quite a bit done in the past 4 months.

Header fabrication done using Hedman components, 2 1/8" primaries, 3 1/2" collectors, saved the original 3" JR header mufflers and G&R pipes, ceramic coated the entire setup from flange to tip in the original flat black

Busted seat repaired
Seat covers repaired
Wiring cleaned up under dash (Oh,, the horror!)
Wiring cleaned up under hood, voltage regulator back to original location
Fuel system finished under hood back to original configuration
Trans temp gauge installed
New trans oil cooler installed
Fuel level gauge installed
Re-routed speedometer cable back to the original setup
Removed Winters shifter and installed original style setup shifter, custom heim joint linkage
Installed proportioning valve, re-routed and installed all new brake lines
Installed the old Roush Accel dual point/tach drive, Jones mechanical tach now working
Original SK water pump rebuilt/restored
All new correct radiator hoses
New thermostat (it was missing)
Battery box repaired/rebuilt
Missing dzus fasteners in rear under hatch area repaired/replaced
Hood mods completed to duplicate original setup (Harder than it looked!), hinges, latch, release cable done
Air cleaner modified to use until original can be duplicated
New comp engineering adjustable shocks installed in front

Also completed all needed repairs to horn, lights, wipers, etc to make it street legal again.

Now collecting/fabricating necessary parts for the rear suspension restoration back to the original setup.

Once the rear is done, then finally cosmetics...paint, etc.

Also waiting on a mint 69/70 Mach scoop to modify to match the original.

Good job! Glad you are making progress. When it's done, what shows might you be attending? I would like to see this car in person.
John.

I plan on taking to its old stomping grounds in Detroit for one of the Woodward Cruise events and would like to bring it to the show in Indianapolis, since the Mustang II's make that show in force.

It won't be this year, but hoping for next year or 2013. Still have a lot of work to do on the car...rear suspension, disassembly for paint, then getting it back together again.

Still cool. I have been following your posts here, and elsewhere. Been fascinated ever since the first mag article came out about it. Would be super cool to talk to ya, face to face. What you are doing, with the car, is exactly what I would do with it. I will be around, hoping to meet you and see the car.
John.

P.S. What did ya have to do to get the distributor working?

Sounds great. I can't wait to share the car. I'm with ya on that old article. I can't count how many times I've read it since I was a kid.

Actually, when I got the car it had an MSD ignition in it, but luckily, the guy saved the old Accel piece that Roush installed with the turbos. I just pulled it out, checked/adjusted it, and it worked. Thats what its running for now until I get the BEI back from repair. I have some NOS components for spares/repair of the head if needed and a couple of spare modules.

First configuration of the car had a Mallory dual point setup. Then, when they did the upgrades reflected in the Sudden Death article, Roush installed a new Accel BEI electronic setup. That was removed when Roush did the twin turbo upgrade in '79/80. He installed the current piece, a dual point, tach drive with a vacuum retard which was plumbed into the turbos for a mechanical boost retard.

Re: Sudden Death G&R Progress

Took SD out for a little exercise recently and doing some tuning while waiting to finish collecting pieces to restore the rear suspension.

Looking good! How well does it drive? I can't remember if you were going back to silver paint or not. What is the plan?

Re: Sudden Death G&R Progress

Drives great. Just need to get the rear suspension done and get the 4wd coil overs out of there that someone put in it. They are huge and so stiff, they make the car bounce over bumps!

Definitely going back silver...right down to the gray gelcoat bumpers
