306 build

I'm building a 306 for my fox body, I am looking to get 400 to 425 hp to the flywheel. My car is a 91 notchback that will have a six point cage, 4.10 gears, 5 lug swap (aerospace), holeshot revolver drag wheels with 275/60/15s and skinnies. I will be using a pro motions built T-5, spec stage 3 clutch, ford racing aluminum driveshaft. I've already got a good blocked to be machined, a victor junior intake, 600 Holley hp, and msd box and pro billet distributor. My main questions are what heads, cam, and rotating assembly to use. Also, yes I am very aware that this can be done much easier with a mild stroker but I don't want one yet, I want to see what I can do with the 306 before I give in. This will also be a street strip car but mostly street. And my definition of streetable is pretty wild compared to most others. So thanks in advance and I'm happy to be apart of this forum. Casey

Re: 306 build

It isn't that hard to get those hp numbers with a good set of aftermarket heads. A stroker will just do it at a lower rpm which makes it a little more streetable. If you have to buy a crankshaft and rods it makes no sense to stay with the 302. The cylinder head selection depends on whether you want to be maxxed out at 400ish hp or if you want them big enough to be able to grow further on a bigger cubed engine later on? An AFR 165 or trick flow 170 should get you close but something bigger in the 180 -210 cfm range will work well on a 347 as well.
