Working on a 400 in mid Michigan!

I'm new to working on engines. This is my first.

I got a 78 LTD with a 400 that's bone stock. I like my boat! (Mostly I like that I fit in it. I'm 6'6" and 350lb!) I know these engines are bogged down from the factory. Been lurking a while and have seen some good info on this forum about the 400.

I know some hate it... But that just makes me like it more!

I'll be making a post with more details in the technical forum (I think that's where I should make it... If not please let me know!)

Any info would be appreciated!

Welcome to the forum. You can make a 400 run pretty good. Roger

Google T Meyer Inc. He is an expert on 400 engines and how to make power with them. You'll be glad you did.

Re: Working on a 400 in mid Michigan!

Already ahead of you! LOL.

Already found some great info from him.
He has the thermostat with the "hat" that the 351c, 351m, and 400 need. Without that piece it never shuts off the bypass, and the temp just keeps rising!

Now if only I had the $ to do a full rebuild through him! Eventually I probably will... Right now I'm on a tight budget.
