Where can I find cork? I will check to see if they have it at the parts store tomorrow.

I have some fiber gasket paper on hand, will that do the job, or do I need to use cork?

On the '62s, isn't there a drain plug on the tank? Square headed?

Make yourself one out of cork it's cheap.

I'm assuming there was a seal here, looks like there are bits of cork left on it:

A locking gas cap is $11 at Autozone, I might try getting that seal between the fillerneck and the flange that the cap attaches to first though.

Hmm... sounds like a good idea. My uncle found this gas can on the side of the road one time. He thought it was his lucky day and poured it into his tank without checking to see what it was. It was diesel. He came back about an hour later and there was a trail of smoke behind him that was literally a mile long. He drained the tank and flushed it out with gas, blew out the fuel lines with carb cleaner, and changed the fuel filter. The car still smoked pretty bad. He never did get it to stop smoking completely so he had to junk it.

I think I can take the filler tube and extend it back into a container of a diesel/gas mixture, then follow the trail of smoke to see who the crook is

I'm gonna play with my timing and plug gap today, and also get a stronger spring for the throttle return.

Knew a farmer with that problem. People stealing from his big fuel tanks he had. He just made it easy for them one night and left a couple of 5 gal cans out for them. Only thing was he filled them with diesel and just enough gas to give it the right smell. Didn't take long to figure out who was stealing gas.

If you do narrow it down to a thieving neighbor, pivot your fuel filler into the trunk and dip it into a gallon container of water... or worse yet, bleach. Let him fill up on that all he wants, he won't come back for more.

You beat me to it Jeff. I was going to say that. Anyway, disconnect the vent from the tank and blow some air through it to see if it's plugged. Get a new sealed gas cap.

The Falcon has a vent tube coming from top of the tank next to the filler and goes cross beside the rear panel and loops back under the right quarter panel and back down through the floor behind the bumper (next to the exhaust pipe)

We have done that. We had a worker who was so tight that he is probably still spending the lunch money he saved from grade school. Anyways, he bought a new S10 truck and used it to come to work. Every 2-3 days we would add a gallon or two of gas to his tank. We did this for about 3 weeks and he would come in an tell us that he was getting nearly 40mpg. He was proud of the truck. Then we cut him off. He bitched and complained that his truck wasn't running right any more. He even sent the truck to the dealer to get it looked at. I would love to know that the service writer thought. LOL

It was a great practical joke--when gas was less than 1.25 a gallon.

The Falcon gas tanks and filler necks are designed to NOT slosh out the back on acceleration... I have one

You very likely have a poor neighbor who never needs to go to the gas station or you have a pinhole in the fuel lines or a cracked rubber hose somewhere.

Without 3 other carbs at the same time your Falcon cannot run good and still get 8 MPG.

The gas cap has a built in vent. You must get a real good vented gas cap. For some reason the $15.00 auto parts store vented gas caps don't work like they should.

You can tell, as when you try to open the tank, it re-pressurizes... That is a very bad thing.
