Re: 2011 Shelby GT350 - The Last One?

It'd be interesting to see if the Shelby makes a come back in any way at all nowadays with a lot of the car manufacturers struggling so hard to make ends meet. In the meantime, we'll probably all have to be content with pictures of the muscle car and hearing about it in racing circuits eh?

I doubt there will be an automatic Shelby, but who knows.

As someone who has driven one of the ~159 or so 2011 GT350's and sat shotgun on track in another, the car is a beast and lives up to the Shelby name!
It's more Shelby than the GT500's are because the GT350 is post-title. In 2016, they won't be anymore, and that's a downright rotten shame.

Re: 2011 Shelby GT350 - The Last One?

Shelbys aren't about "raw performance". If they were, they'd be configured like the Boss 302 - no frills (meaning less weight - kinda), track key, etc, and they wouldn't be available as convertibles.

An automatic transmission means they'll be able to sell more of that model to "regular people". I took a friends truck to the car wash the other day, and while waiting for it to come out the other side, I witnessed a wash monkey ask the owner of a car to drive it to the drying area because it had a manual trans.

This is what's happening to American youth - they're being dumbed down, and softened by creature comforts.

2011 Shelby GT350 - The Last One?

87 year old Carroll Shelby revealed in a Dallas News interview that the 2011 Shelby GT350 may be the last year for the Shelby Mustang. Shelby American, headquartered in Las Vegas, has been cutting staff and trimming back its post-title automotive modification business while ramping up the parts sales. Shelby says that there isn't much money to be made anymore on modifying Mustangs and F150s, even with the close to $70k price-tag for some of the packages. The margins on selling Shelby branded aftermarket power parts is much greater, particularly because there isn't as much labor involved.

Rumor is only 500 or so of the 2011 Shelby GT350 cars will be produced over the next two or three years. The 2007 Shelby GT350 was the previous campaign, with over 5000 cars sold through 2010.
