Sounds like just a stock rebuild, so I would just take it to AAMCO or a good local shop if I were you. Don't mess with any performance type upgrades. You don't need them and might cause more problems than they are worth.

No problem retaining the stock column shift.

Grinding Transmission

I just bought a 1964 Ranchero with the 170 engine, 3-speed column shift manual transmission. In 1, 2 and Reverse the transmission grinds. It runs quiet and smooth in 3rd. What do I need to do? How do I find out which transmission rebuild kit, if any, I need? I am no mechanic. My husband says it's my car so I am gathering info so he can fix it. I love the column shift so I want to keep it.
