62 Interior knobs and gas pedal

In my 62 I ordered a set of interior knobs but only a few fit. Anyone ever replaced these? Is there a trick I am missing? Also I had no gas pedal at all so I ordered one and I receive this plastic piece with no fasteners. Can anyone tell me how to install it? Thanks for any help.

Re: 62 Interior knobs and gas pedal

The gas pedal is super easy. There's a small bar across the back near the top. The throttle linkage fits in between the bar and the pedal. The bottom of the pedal attaches to the floor with a couple of lag screws.

For the knobs, well, it's been so long since I messed with a 60-63 that I can't remember them all. I know there were a bunch if knobs to deal with. I do remember the obvious ones though. The light switch knob is molded to the shaft. To remove the knob and shaft together, pull the light switch knob until the lights are on. Reach under the dash and push and hold the button located on top of theight switch. Then pull the knob and shaft out of the switch. To install, just line up the shaft with the hole and push it until it's all the way in. The cigar lighter knob is the one that's threaded. If I remember right, the rest all have set screws.

Re: 62 Interior knobs and gas pedal

Just changed a few knobs (AIR and Lighter) on my 64 Galaxie.

For the Air, there's a set screw that removes small pull handle. Then, using a very small needle nosed pliers, you look into the opening and "spin" the housing out using the pliers. (There's four slots; grab two by inserting the pliers.)

The knob then fits into the opening, replace the housing, and put the pull handle back on.

Re: 62 Interior knobs and gas pedal

As described, the light switch proves the more challenging to replace, the lighter knob threads into place and the remaining knobs have set screws to keep them in place. Use an allen wrench to loosen the set screw, push the knob in place, and then tighten the set screw to hold it in place.

When I replaced the dash knobs, I also replaced the radio knobs, window cranks and turn signal knob so everything matched in the interior. My Ranchero is a four speed or I would have also removed and replaced the column shift knob.
