rear spring shackles

Some time in the past, my uncle decided it would be a good idea
to install some aftermarket shackles to lift the rear of the
little truck.

I personally do not like them and would like to bring the truck back down just a bit and am wondering if:

The shackles from a 63 Ranchero would be the same as a 65

I just disected a a 63 and held onto the those shackles hoping they will work on the 65.

Re: rear spring shackles

Shackles are too narrow for the 65 which are 2 1/2 wide, 63 is 2 in. wide. Use 65 mustang shackles same as 65 Falcon.

Just an innocent question... What does the width of the spring have to do with the two strips of metal that connect the spring to the frame? As long as the hole for the through bolt is the right size the '63 should work.

@Bluebird
The bolts are part of one side of the original shackle.

When I replaced the shackles on my 65 the original shackles were not. I see on many parts list that the early ones were. Is the bolt just a press in? If so they might be replaced with a longer bolt.

Re: rear spring shackles

Keep in mind that wider springs have to fit the front of the frame. A wider spring may not fit within the pocket of the spring frame. The rubber bushings are a not quite a tight fit, but when you tighten up the front springs, they will be snug. Don't think a 2 1/2 " spring would fit. Also, the spring plates have holes drilled for the proper spring width. A wider spring may not allow the u-bolt holes to fit in the plates.
