The Damp Rid works great. Just had to put a bucket of it in my '76 LTD. Luckily the leak was easy to find/fix but while it was in wait for the repair, it did a great job of drying everything up.

I am having the same issue with the new cap on my '65. I would hesitate to shorten the spring though. Shortening it will actually make the rate higher making the chances of it venting even less...
