What AOD core?

Thinking of building an AOD for my 66. What year/model cores should I be looking for? What should I pay for a good core?

Thanks.

Re: tbi

Most carburetor problems fall into two catagories.

1. Carbs that are too big for the engine. I have a 600 cfm vacuum secondary Holley on my 347 that puts out 418 hp. It runs like a raped ape. Go...

Re: Ticking noise from AOD trans

I almost put a new transmission in my wife's Subaru before I noticed that there was a stone stuck in the tread of her left front tire. :surprise:

Re: BP 306 Runs Rich

Blueprint sets their engines up conservatively since they will be run under different conditions around the country. That means that the as delivered jetting tends to be on the rich side.

I have...

Re: Good starter project?

Alot depends on what skills you bring to the project vs what the car needs. Can you do mechanical work? Paint and body work?

A 78 Ranchero is never going to bring big bucks when you sell it, so...

Re: Car show thoughts

Noticed that some shows lately have been putting age limits on the cars that will be judged. Here in NJ, cars must be 25 years old to be considered historic. Seems to me like a good trend.

Re: 2 Speed Rear End?

What you are describing is the Borg Warner 3 speed overdrive transmission.

Here is a good description of how it worked.

Re: 66 289 to 390 c4 to c6

If it's a Sealed Power cam it's either a stock replacement or close to it.

Easiest thing to do is just check the lift.

Re: toploader and speedo cable

I've never heard of having that much slack. Should be a snug fit. Sounds like the gears are not engaging.

Re: What Heads, cam, intake etc for 351w

Is the car just for street, or street/strip use?

You might want to check out the Blueprint Engines heads. You can save a few bucks that you can use somewhere else on your build. They came with my...

Re: c4 troubles

I seem to remember that the modulator needs about .040 preload. Is this correct?

Re: T5 Swap - 68 Falcon

The best Fairlane comparison is the 66-67 model year. I think the 68 was a little bit different.

MDL is very good on this swap. Suggest you contact them.

Re: C4 to manual swap

If I remember right, you don't need to change the driveshaft.

Re: C4 to manual swap

No trimming of body or floor pan except possibly for shifter. Existing trans crossmember will work. Only real headache is that you can't find the stock clutch linkage anymore. You'll have to convert...

Re: Reusing 1965 289 head bolts?

Also, some of the 70's era 302 heads had big lumps in the exhaust ports for the EGR system. The lumps were in the casting whether EGR was used or not. You want to stay away from these heads as the...

Re: Reusing 1965 289 head bolts?

Bad news. If I remember correctly the Edelbrock heads are drilled for 1/2" bolts. The Ford bolts are 7/16". You need special Edelbrock bolts and washers.

Correction:You need the Edelbrock 9680...

Re: Reusing 1965 289 head bolts?

I reused stock head bolts on 11 to 1 compression drag motors all of the time back in the day and never had a problem. Those bolts were designed to never approach their yield strength back then, so...

Re: 8 & 9 rear end? Poor man posi w/washers?

I remember guys welding the spider gears back in the 50's and early 60's to make a locked rear for drag racing. Hope that's not what the prior owner did.

Re: Another C4 Shifting Question.

Check to see what voltage you are getting at the choke. Should be 12v. If it was wired into the ignition circuit (which it shouldn't be) you might only be getting 8 or 9v.

Re: Another C4 Shifting Question.

I have a TCI C4 with a manual/auto valve body. It only shifts down to 1st gear when it comes to a full stop.

10 hours to remove and replace a C4?

Depends what you mean by a modern engine. Some guys are putting Coyote engines in these, but the work involved is way more than I personally would want to do.

I doubt that I will ever built another engine with a flat tappet cam, but if I did, I would break the cam in with soft springs. I know it's a PITA to change the springs again, but flat tappet are...
