Re: 24 and 26 spline C4 interchangability

Hello and Welcome . What you have looks ok. That is an early planet set with washers under the gears but shouldn't matter . It should locate over that lip on the planet bearing.

There are some...

Re: 71 f100 c4 shifts early and engine lugs down in D or R

ok , no vacuum leaks ? that can cause RPM drop in gear . Timing? You may be able to run more initial advance might help? Idle mixtures , again need to be right . Could try adjusting the mixtures in...

Re: what rear end size for a c5

Engine RPM Calculator (http://www.csgnetwork.com/multirpmcalc.html)

Some good online calculators , need to key in tyre height.

3.5 will put you likely just around 3K depending on tyres

Re: C4 no third gear

Was the modulator adjusted ? How long is the pin? How much preload on the pin? Is the spool valve under the modulator pin facing the right way? Is the kickdown free and not jammed on?

The vacuum...

Re: Through bolting motor mount isolator?

I do that , makes no difference to harshness . What I do is exactly as per that article but only 1 bolt . On the top side ( nut side) i drill the hole a little larger . I use a 2" long x 3/8 bolt ,...

Re: C4 squeals on gear change and burns clutches

You know , at this stage it really can't hurt . My only concern would be you don't really want reverse any higher .

I'm still trying to figure what the noise is , very unusual for something...

Re: C4 squeals on gear change and burns clutches

Transgo is good stuff .. You are correct , air checking is different to oil flow when the trans is running . The oil would seal better . You always hear some minor ring leakage .

Re: C4 squeals on gear change and burns clutches

I'm at a bit of a loss with the pressure .
Reverse IMO is actually high , and Forward gears low .
I can't help thinking something odd in the pressure reg boost valve area .

The circuitry is very...

Re: C4 squeals on gear change and burns clutches

Ok , those holes drilled are for the 2-3 shift feed

The cutback valve in a normal trans is supposed to drop line pressure as road speed increases . The cutback sees governor pressure as road...

Re: Ford C-4 reverse drum replacement bushing too loose/won't press fit

Excellent .. Will have to do a bit of measuring now to see if the early drums are infact smaller ..

My parts listings show the same as yours 64 onwards

Re: C4 squeals on gear change and burns clutches

You know it could be . I've never used that filter extension in a C4 , although have used quite a few of the C6 ones that are similar

Is the extension tube bigger than the valvebody passage that...

Re: C4 squeals on gear change and burns clutches

Re: C4 squeals on gear change and burns clutches

I'm not totally convinced either but I have seen issues as I mentioned .. But what throws that out is the late model cars use a lot of Dacron..

But then something is keeping the pressure down...

Re: C4 squeals on gear change and burns clutches

Oh Dacron ... Hmmm yes I have used them on one C6 , it was ok . I prefer not to .

A mate used a unknowingly used Dacron in a Turbo 400 and it made all sorts weird noises too. I got him the brass...

Re: C4 squeals on gear change and burns clutches

The two holes are normal . That 3rd hole I know Transgo don't drill it . Other kits do. What that is is a restriction feed at the 2-3 backout valve . Transgo keep that operational with the white...

Re: C4 squeals on gear change and burns clutches

Hmmmm , can def hear it there now . Pressure still about same max.... Hard to pick what it is. Trying to think outside the square now

So the valvebody is done exactly as per the Transgo 40-3...

Re: C4 squeals on gear change and burns clutches

You could try a bit bigger , As per pic . .125" is fairly common size in a lot of kits. Drilling from .110-.125" does give a 30% flow increase. I have tried in the past and there is a difference even...

Re: C4 squeals on gear change and burns clutches

Hmmm Hard to pick the sound there . Sounds to be shifting ok .
Looks like 150ish psi max? And does have line rise with vacuum drop. Did the pressure go any higher with vacuum disconnected ?

Re: C4 squeals on gear change and burns clutches

I think you're right , burnt parts are not good .. I'm curious why the forwards would burn . If the line pressure is good , the forwards never do any work . Mostly they come out looking new .
That...

Re: C4 squeals on gear change and burns clutches

Wow , is it really the trans causing the squeal? Very unusual.. That kit usually is ok..Not really a lot else you can change..

I have used quite a few valvebodies from PTC in Melbourne . They...
