Re: 65 Mercury Marauder Welcome?

Orange is the correct color for the 65 Merc 390's, 410's and 428's. You should have the cool tall "Mercury" valve covers with the lightning bolt too. I've got a 66 410 sitting in my garage waiting to...

Re: wats the value of a 68 LTD fully restored

You have to ask yourself, are you restoring/owning the vehicle for it's monetary value, or because you like the vehicle and enjoy driving it? If you are restoring for money, you're never going to get...

Re: New 302 crate motor knock

Okay, found the company in Grand Prairie. They're just a hop, skip, and a jump from where I work. Never heard of them locally. I'd be willing to go bust their balls for you. Crooked shop give a bad...

Re: 66 galaxie power steering pump, Where????

You don't need a 66 specific steering pump. All of those Ford and Saginaw boxes from the mid sixties to the late 70's (and even some into the 80's) are interchangeable. I've swapped pumps and boxes...

Re: New 302 crate motor knock

What company here in Texas was it again? One of use down here might know about local reputation, etc. and be able to give you some ammo for the fight.

Re: 5.0L swap in a 64 Galaxie?

If you mean 5.0 as in a 302 with fuel injection, then it's bolt in just like a 289.

If you mean the new Coyote 5.0, then you will likely be the first person to try that swap, and you'll have to...

Re: 63 galaxie trans rear end type questions

If the 289 in your car is original, then the only transmissions for it are another 5-bolt 62-64 3 or 4 speed, 5-bolt Cruise-o-matic from a 62 or 63, or a 5-bolt C4 from a 1964 289 vehicle. All small...

Re: How bout this garage?

No sour grapes. His collection might be worth more, but I'd take my rag-tag ensemble over his over-customized trailer queens any day. If someone gave me a trailer queen like that, I'd sell it and buy...

Re: sheet metal question

Even if you fill the holes with a TIG welder and putty in all that pitting, it's still never going to look good. Serviceable, but not good. You can't fake metal that just plain isn't there. I'd...

Re: Radiator

A recore is actually my first choice, but the two local shops I've talked to use Proliance/Vista-pro cores. And neither place instilled me with much confidence. Both places thought plastic radiators...

Radiator

Since Modine is no longer with us, anybody found a decent radiator? Proliance/Vista-pro is supposed to be the Modine successor, but I've heard they're Chinese crap. What about Spectra? More Chinese...

Re: How bout this garage?

Ditto FE. Too much polish and decorations and not enough grease and tools. I'd rather have a beater that I can enjoy than a cream-puff that is built for looks.

Re: 460 / C6 is in..

FE's are definitely cool, but I doubt you'll find many folks putting down the 429/460. Still a 60's big block Ford, and will make as much power as you care to build.

Re: dog dish or 500XL caps?

Normally I'm a dog dish fan all the way. But those XL covers look so good on the 64's that I'd have to vote for them. But only on a 64.

Re: Everyone's gas mileage?

There's no reason a 390 (or 352 for that matter) with a 3.00 or 2.75 rear end shouldn't be getting in the mid-teens or better. If you're not, something is amiss. Transmission slip, slack timing...

Re: wat id the differanc between a LTD and LTD formal

Fordman,

You are correct in that they called a seemingly fastback 67 LTD a formal roof, though is does have much thicker C pillars than the Galaxie 500 fastback. That is a bit of an anomaly in...

Re: wat id the differanc between a LTD and LTD formal

Formal is a notchback. Not quite as angular as a sedan, but not as streamlined as a fastback. XL package leaned more toward go-fast/cool goodies (floor shifter, bucket seats, chrome, stripes, styled...

Re: Found some '65 horns today.

One horn makes a high pitched sound, the other low. And each set at a note to deliberately cause dissonance with the other (like a 2nd or a 6th). The idea being an unpleasant sound will get folks'...

Re: Header's help for my 68

Yup, the FPA 429/460 headers will bolt right in. They are the only ones I have seen that do so without massaging. No difference in the 65-78 chassis, that's what makes the 429/460 an easy swap even...

Re: bell for '64 cruise-o-matic to '68 289

5-bolt engine/bellhousing/trans have to be used as a unit. Even the bolt pattern on the back end of the bellhousing is different from the 6-bolts. You need a 6-bolt trans and bell to match the '68...

Re: How close is too close (brake line to header)?

In all of the areas where trans or brake lines come close to my headers, I wrap them with .5" fiberglass insulation, and then wrap that with some metal flashing and secure it with hose clamps.

In...
