Thank you for the help understanding the differences and for giving me a bit better feeling about the H304P pistons. I'm quiet new to this so the help is really appriciated That said I guess I could always sell them here and get a set of L2291F for $500 (the Autotech is another $300), but it...

Thanks for your great reply, very much appriciate the help! I now feel that I screwed up royaly as the seller of the kit already supposedly shipped me a set of H304P pistons . I don't know why we get so different compression ratios (specially DCR) but I suspect yours are probably the correct...

Hi, The supplier shipped the wrong pistons with my rebuild kit and now I may get a new chance at chosing pistions for my 390 build. - The heads are C8AE-H (68-71cc) - Full length headers - Still have the 2V 2100 carb but may be going 4V - Elgin 966p camshaft...
  4. Rocker arms, how worn is too worn

    All Ford Techboard
Hi, Currently rebuilding my FE 390. Staying with the stock 2bbl for now and an RV cam (Elgin 966P) and need to know what to do with my rocker set up. The shafts look terrible with deep scratches all over them and will need to be replaced. The rockers have visible wear where resting against the...

Today was a good day! Got the rebuild kit from Falcon Global and turned it over to the engine builder to ensure propper bore and valve guides etc. Also found a set of unused long tube headers locally for just $250, havn't seen any before as they are rare in Sweden. Really happy about that deal!

Thanks for all the help. Have never rebuilt a set of heads before so I'm a true newbie in this department. Asked seller to add springs to go with the cam and they added a spring set with 110# on seat and 320# open saying that was recommended by Elgin for this cam. Where did you find the spring...

So I tore the engine down completely and found a piston that had lost its skirt (found it in the pan), also found a lot of metallic debris in the pan and something that was like a thick oily mud. A lot of bearing were severly scored etc. Oh and the cam gears were so worn that I could almost lift...

Already got hold of a fel-pro gasket set so can use those instead and maybe go for the cheaper kit. Will start searching for a 4-bbl intake, there are plenty of cast iron ones around here but would prefer to go aluminum if I take that route and then it becomes much more expensive all of a...

I couldn't really see any valve seals at all and decided to take the heads off to check the cylinders and heads properly while I was at it. What I found wasn't that rewarding, the cylinder walls were heavily scratched and the carbon buildup so thick that the front return passages had totally...

thanks extech for the quick reply. Given that I didn't see any crankcase vacuum and thus couldn't be sure of the gas finding its way straight to the intake I did not want to fill the crankcase with ether or what ever oil detoriating chem carb clean is made of. As I had already bought the...

Hi all! Hope you are doing fine this Thursday! Finally got hold of a bore scope and put it to the test. As I see it piston an valves in cylinder #5 looks fine but are however soaked in oil :nerd:. What do you guys think? Took a couple of close ups and looked around it all looked about the...

Thanks for the quick reply. The flash makes it look more metallic than it actually was and it was easy to wipe off.. After driving it home I could see a darker color on plug 5 than plug 1 on the new plugs after just 10 miles (at 30 mph) so still hoping its oil. Above said I of course need to...

So I have cleaned up the distributor, removed a home made bit of plastic limiting mechanical advance and installed a cleaned and nicely set up distributor into the engine. By mounting a hose on my vacuum cleaner I mangaged to suck all the carbonized oil around the distributor shaft out of the...

Got a ton of parts delivered and still awaiting a new pertronix flame thrower coil to replace the original. Got a new 160degree thermostat and a complete carb rebuild kit while I was at it. Thinking i'll do it right the first time around. After a week of daily penetrating oil, a stong beer, a...

Hi! Such great advice. Thank you, and by the way the car is a Y car with the 2bbl carb still in place. Will make sure to fill the tires good at the next fill-up as I tbh haven't checked them yet Will take it bit by bit with the changes that you propose. They all sound great! Yesterday I...
