351w to 428 stroker

I have a 1974 351w block that i plan on boring .030 over. What stroker kit(looking at a 428 from Ford Engine Kit - Ford 428 Stroker Kit, 351 Windsor Big Bore Flat Top) would you recommend. Also what heads, cam, ect should i be looking at. Any recommendations as to what i should do with this engine.

That kit looks like its for a big bore aftermarket block...I would recommend a scat rotating assembly..They make nice kits that come with everything you need. The 408 is a great kit for a stock block and fits in very easily...As for what you should do you haven't supplied any details like how the engine will be used or what power level or budget you have to work with?

I am looking at making it around the 500-600hp range that will get a nice quarter mile time but still be able to be used to drive around town on the weekends and for the budget im looking to spend aroumd $6,000

Re: 351w to 428 stroker

I had a 408W Stroker in a 1974 351W block and the rear main seal was a big problem so you might consider having the block machined for a one piece seal.....just saying!!

As far as I know 393 and 408 Strokers are the best for the long run since the geometry gets a little problematic with larger Strokers and oil consumption becomes a consideration......may want to consult some builders to get their input??

Good Luck with whatever you decide!!

I believe you have to use a 400m crank and have it offset ground. My brother did this over ten years ago using Mopar rods. At .030 over he end up with 421ci.

That was the original way it was done, but the aftermarket has made that pretty much obsolete. An aftermarket 4.00" stroke crank is hard to beat in a stock block. 408.
