My mother bought a new 2006 Fusion SE V6....has a 3.0/6 speed auto. The dang seat belt minder is a pain in the butt! It doesn't remind you just a couple times...it does it constantly for about 15 minutes of driving then finally shuts up. How do you turn it off?

I turned mine off in the '03 Lightning....not hard to do, but I don't know the sequence for the Fusion.

I kinda like the Fusion...roomy, handles fair, quiet...comfy. The motor runs good as well, and it matched perfectly to the 6 speed auto. So far, I really like it...but it ain't mine. My mother drives it daily and it's replacing a '00 Dodge Intrepid R/T. The Dodge has been plaguing her with problems for the last year...all nickle & dime stuff, but it was time to upgrade.

Guys....

Sorry if I step on any toes here. I drive race cars...and have since I was 4 years old when I started in go-karts. If the damn safety belts aren't a 5 or 6 way harness, they are damn near useless...IMO. I lost a GOOD friend (actually she was my gf at the time) because she was ejected from a vehicle when it rolled...and yes she had her belt on. See what I mean?

That said, I just want the thing turned off so that IF I want to drive it, I can choose whether or not I put the belt on without having to listen to that damn dinger griping at me because it ain't on.

How about motorcycles? What's next....a warning device or speed limiter because you don't have a helmet on?

I BELIEVE SEAT BELTS DO MORE GOOD THAN HARM (ENOUGH SAID )

HERE IS HOW TO DEACTIVATE YOUR CHIME

Preparation

Apply the parking brake before deactivating/activating the safety belt minder.
Place the gear selector lever in PARK or NEUTRAL (manual transaxle).
Place the ignition switch in the OFF position.
Close all the vehicle doors.
Unbuckle the driver and the front passenger safety belts.
Deactivating/Activating

Turn the ignition lock cylinder to the ON position (do not start the engine).
Wait until the safety belt warning lamp turns off (approximately 1 minute).
NOTE: Step 3 must be completed within 50 seconds after the safety belt warning indicator turns off.

For the seating position being disabled, at a moderate speed, buckle then unbuckle the safety belt 9 times, ending with the safety belt in the unbuckled state. After this step the safety belt warning indicator illuminates for 3 seconds.
Within 10 seconds of the safety belt warning indicator turning on, at a moderate speed, buckle then unbuckle the safety belt.
This disables the safety belt minder feature for that seating position, if it is currently enabled. As confirmation, the safety belt warning indicator flashes 4 times per second for 3 seconds.

As confirmation, the safety belt warning indicator flashes 4 times per second for 3 seconds, followed by 3 seconds with the indicator off, then the safety belt warning indicator flashes 4 times per second for 3 seconds again.
After confirmation, the deactivation/activation procedure is complete.

I don't know if King ranch is the same I didnt want to read it all. Here is the King ranch method.

Preparation

Before deactivating/activating the belt minder, set the parking brake.
Place the gearshift in the P (Park) position.
Place the ignition switch in the OFF position.
Close all the vehicle doors.
Unbuckle the driver safety belt
Place the parklamps/headlamps switch in the OFF position.

Deactivating/Activating

Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position. (Do not start the engine.)
Wait until the safety belt warning lamp turns off (approximately 1 minute).
NOTE: Step 3 must be completed within 60 seconds after the safety belt warning lamp turns off.

Buckle then unbuckle the safety belt 9 times, ending with the safety belt unbuckled.
After step 3 is complete, the safety belt warning lamp will be turned on for 3 seconds.
If step 4 does not occur within 10 seconds at the end of step 3, the beltminder will automatically exit programming made without changing its enable status.
Within 10 seconds of the lamp turning on, buckle then unbuckle the safety belt.
This will disable the beltminder feature if it is currently enabled. As confirmation, the safety belt warning lamp will flash 4 times per second for 3 seconds.
