I think they were going for more sleek and tuff rather than pretty in the design, especially in black. I like the 2003 model. Its mercury's version of the newer model chevy impala. some stats on a stock 2003 marauder:

Any conversation about muscle cars, past or present, begins with what's under the hood. Lift the hood on the Marauder and you find an all aluminum, 4.6 liter, DOHC V-8. The Mercury motor generates 302 hp @ 5,700 rpm and 310 lb. ft. of torque @ 4,250 rpm. It's a four valves per cylinder design, with a truck cam (and corresponding lower torque curve) borrowed from the new Aviator.

The sole transmission choice is a four speed automatic with overdrive. A high-stall speed torque converter has been fitted, and shift points calibrated to maximize performance. Bury the gas pedal and the first to second shift occurs at 6,000 rpm. Second to third kicks in at 6,200 rpm. The tach redline is 6,250

On the track, the distinctions between Marauder and Marquis get a lot clearer. The frame's torsional rigidity has been boosted by 24%, and the front suspension is a SLA design with coil over shock springs and monotube dampers. In back, it's a live rear axle setup, with load leveling air springs and monotube dampers once again. Rear shocks were relocated to a more vertical posture, stabilizer bars are fitted fore and aft. Springs and sway bars are the same specs as on police package cars, as are the disc brakes with ABS and electronic brake force distribution (the exception is that police cars have a more fade-resistant binder than do production cars). The new rack and pinion steering system is notable for having a nice heft to it, thankfully lacking the over-boost that many big cars suffer from.

This is one helluva family car !!!

It has all forged internals, D-1SC ProCharger making 18-20 PSI or so and I think it Dynoed at a shade less than 600 RWHP!!

Car weighs in at 4300# or so and for now is the fastest around....BUT a guy in Iowa is building a faster one?? Putting on 18x18 rear wheels in tubs and a Hell Raising blower!!

I have a ProCharger on mine making about 9 PSI and it is really fun!! Not as quick as the Cobra but pretty darn quick for a 4 door sedan!!

Oh come come now... Stand back and take a goooooood look. Maybe it's because I hate the early and mid 1980's styles, and this Merauder is very reminiscent of that era... which covers the lincoln grill the crown vic looking front bumper, the body lines from the rear door back look like the '84 cougar, the front door foreward looks like a Mark VIII/ nixed with a Monte Carlo from 1979...

Now Fella's that's just my opinion and should never be taken seriously when reguarding the looks of any particular vehicle...

I bet your opinion would change if you were to drive one.

I have had seven "Panther" Fords...six CV's and now the Marauder and I cannot say a bad thing about any of them...especially the Marauder!!

Cumulatively I have chalked up over 800K miles in these cars and though they aren't "Beautiful" by some's standards they all command attention!!

The Marauder is exactly what the CVPI should have been all along....FAST....COMFORTABLE......SAFE.....ECONOMICAL (23-24 MPG on the highway even with the blower)!!

Mr. "FE" should drive one as suggested and I'd bet they would begin to look A LOT BETTER to him!!

It's still ugly...
I bet you wouldn't like it if I said your mama was ugly
so I won't but people feel the same way about their cars.

You probably don't like the markVIII either. That car is luxury. My dad had one for a couple years. It was a solid car and it could move.

You do hear a turbo. I think it is a car heating up the tires in the burnout box.

I think those cars look pretty darn slick.

Thats pretty neat! I like the maurader and its too bad its been disontnued. If it had a bit more power stock and maybe a little restyle it could compete with the 300 hemis rolling around. Low 14's with 300s compared to a mid 15 with the merc.

There seemed to be a definate whine even when the car was sitting at the line. It may have been the blower belt or some other accessory, thats a good reason to ask.

The point for asking was the hood was never raised and 10 sec. times non-aspirated just don't sound reasonable. Work it out for yourself ... something was not being mentioned in the first few post.

Inquiring minds wanted to Know where the car and parts fit on the continum of HP and HP power producers.

My ears are attuned to listen for turbo/supercharger sounds, I can usually pick it out over mufflers, tires even stereos...its a gift. With a Mustang, I usually assume its a Supercharger, they'er cheaper, easier to install...eveyone has one. I figured with an Off-brand, specialty type vehicle, he might have stepped up....spurred the pony with an upgrade to a turbo.
