As i was gathering information on the c4 that is in my galaxie i ran across a problem finding parts for a 64 c4. I asked a vendor and he said the 64 c4 cant handle the power of the 65 and up.
Can anyone tell me what the main difference was?
I know that its a 5 bolt instead of the 6 bolt but beyond that im lost..
I just want to know what makes it so weak compared to the 1965 + tranny...

Thanks for your help

The C4 was beefed up again in 70? but I don't know all the parts involved. That, I believe, is when they switched to the 26 spline input shaft. Having snapped 2 24 spline shafts it became somewhat important to me on my drag car. The one I have in there is some aircraft steel 26 spline job. They said if I break that one they will give me a new one free.

the trans was rebuilt about 15 years ago by this guy
DANNY ODAY sets Wheelstander record at 8.64!

Im sure it wasnt anything special just a common rebuild..

So is this thing going to pop when the 289 starts revving and making 300 HP?

I dont do alot of off the line hard acceleration its mostly getting on the highway and passing here and there..
