Some silly question for your perusal!

* Does a 351W fit into it without cutting?

* Are the floor pans the same as the Mustang? Can they be modified to fit?

* Are the front/rear springs the same as a Mustang

Thanks!

I was looking into a 351 for my 65 and found you have to cut the shock towers to make it fit. It is possible though! You need to shave a inch or so off and weld it back up again.

I do believe the springs are the same, but you might want to double check. I'm running "mustang" front coils in mine. The rear leafs are what I'm not totally sure about.

As far as the floor pans, I have no idea. I imagine they are different, but maybe they could be trimmed to fit???

1965 Falcon, where did you see that you have to trim the towers up on a 64-65 Falcon to fit a 351-W?

I have never trimmed the towers on the 64-65 Falcon to install a 351-W.

Tubular Automotive makes real nice headers for the 351-W swap in a 64-65 Falcon.

You have to run a 2 piece motor mount when using the Tubular headers on a Falcon.

Dyno, never knew you could fit one in there without doing some trimming.

Damn... I saw some pictures of a guy that had a 351 in his, but he needed to shave the towers to fit the headers. I didn't want to go down that route so I threw in the towel on that idea. Didn't think there were any swap headers out there for it. Wish I would have found this forum before I started working on my engine!

Next one I guess (my first engine rebuild, probably not going to last long anyway...).

I'm planning on starting the 289 tonight... keep your fingers crossed! We'll see how I did (or how I didn't)

Yes 65 Falc, all you have to do is use the two piece motor mount and it will drop right in.

The headers from Tubular are not the only ones that work but I have found that they are the best fit for the swap.

In 1998 I had a Boss 302 in my 65 with Tubular Auto headers and even with that combo I was pleased with the fit.

In fact even a 351-C will fit between the towers on a 64-65 Falcon!

But, it's so damn tight with the C engine I would not recommend it to anyone.

The 429-460 will fit the 64-65 Falc with the Crites tower mod kit but the firewall will have to be moved 5 inches back to clear the lenth of the engine.

Again, I would not go through all that for a swap.

But, the 351-W is absolutly a drop in affair and the engine will not be that hard to change plugs on.

So in closing 65 Falc, 351-W all the way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was thinking that maybe some guys were using headers that were not really meant for the swap and maybe those headers would need the towers trimmed?

I have had really good luck with the Tubular Headers fittment.

Mikey 545 uses the Tubular headers on his Stang and JustJim uses them on his 351-W 62 Falcon.

So in closing I'm not doubting that those guys had to cut the towers for some clearance like you said but,Im saying that with good swap headers from Tubular they will clear.

It is so easy to put a 351W into an early Falcon or Mustang that I don't know why more people don't do it. With Tubular Automotive swap headers no cutting or hammering of the shock towers is required. Hedman makes both short and long tube swap headers for a 351W into an early Mustang that will work on a Falcon also. The Tubulars are only 1 1/2 primaries, the Hedmans are 1 5/8. I bought a set of Hooker#6208 swap headers with 1 3/4 primaries for a 351W into an early Mustang but haven't verified they will work on a Falcon but have been told they should. I'll try them out as soon as I stop spending so much time cutting bad lites with my Morris.Ha.
