I am looking into getting a set of actual gauges for my 1968 Fairlane 500 instead of these idiot lights. Has anyone actually swapped in some gauges into the OE dash pad? What size gauges to fit into the pods? I know what gauges I want but the only way i can figure to get them installed is to have the dash custom made for it. I would like to retain the look of the dash but just curious if it has been done. here is a link to the gauges i want....eventually.
They are the Dakota digital VHX series.

VHX-1020: Universal 5" Round Trio, Analog Instrument

Also, Stupid question, if I decided to scrap my particular dash style is there anything from another model that will bolt in? something that has aftermarket gauge sets available?

i was looking around the dakota digital website and I found the 69-70 mustang gauge set for the vhx series. they look like a possible fit. I contacted the manufacturer and this is basically what they said.
this is the set i was looking at for the mustang.

Speed/Tach distance apart on center: 5.9”
Speed/Tach viewing window: 3 ¾”
Satellite gauge viewing window: 2 7/8”

Since the main section (speedometer and the tach gauges are together they look like they might fit into the gauge ports. With a custom mount of course. I know the two other gauges are a little smaller but should still work. What do you guys think? would it work?

Here is a link to my pics for me restomod adventure.
