I just bought a 1969 ranchero gt. The gas tank needs cleaning and some holes patched. I wanted to see how much a new tank would be but I can't find any. Will a Torino or Fairlane tank fit? Does anyone have a site that sells new ranchero gas tanks?

You are pretty much stuck with fixing the old tank or finding a good used one from a Ranchero or Ranchwagon. I had good luck with the POR-15 tank cleaning and resealing kit on mine.

I think I replied to Vasili on another message board on this subject.

A new 65 Ranchero tank should work but you will need to
get the sending unit as well.

According to Falcon Enterprises the 65 tank will work on Rancheros up to 69---no mention of the sending unit, so I just added that just to be sure.

I just put one in my 65 and it is a nicely done tank, but the replacement sending unit did not quite fit properly.

The pickup tube and float set in a square recess in the middle of the tank, and on mine the pickup tube/filter was hitting the edge of that recess and not allowing the unit to seat properly at the tank opening.
(probably why my repro sending unit leaked at the top of the tank in my original tank).

For those that see this post----the end of the pickup tube may need to be bent up just a hair to clear the edge of the recess.

Remove the plug on the top left front of the tank----poke a flashlight thru the fill opening----and look thru the tiny hole in the top of the tank to see how the sending unit fits before making a change or installing parts.

Had to bend mine up maybe 1/8" to get the filter/pickup to rest properly and allow the unit to seal up.

Have you tried Auto city classics for a new tank?
I got my sending unti from them & I know they were in the process of adding new fuel tanks for fords, worth a look.

I had Autocrafters repair and coat my 64 Ranchero gas tank. Not cheap though. It was around $800 with shipping back east. Lifetime warranty. We will see. Should have gone a different route looking back.
