Hey guys, ive got a few questions. I found a 71 Mach1 today. The dash vin says its it a 429 SCJ according to my decoder. Where else is there to check this on the car? Is there any place else the vin is on 71's? I know about the spots on 64-70 but not on the 71-73. Thanks. Also, what do you think I should offer the guy? Its missing the engine and trans but the interior is all there and pretty good, and the body is pretty straight.

Does it have a metal tag on the center section? If it has the 3.91 or the 4.30 it was the SCJ, if not, then most likely a CJ. Does it have A/C? If so, not a CJ or SCJ. Does it have the oil cooler in front of the radiator support? If not, probably CJ or plain 429.

This is JMHO.

1971 429 would have the VINS underneath the fenders in the middle on top of the shock tower. You should be able to match up the serial numbers with the dash, also in 1971 the cj and scj also had a return line for the carbuerator, all other mustangs did not have this
