First bath in 12 years. Got it in at the house after being in storage since 95, going to get it cleaned up and running again. Pulled it in and out on the starter today. LOL

I had to wash it today and make sure nothing was living in it before I brought it to the house

I may fire it up this weekend, but its got open headers. My neighbors may not be that excited about that :)

Long term plans are unknown, but currently a Street Dominator, +.040 390, Duraspark, headers, and a 280H cam with only about 10K miles on it.
I may just reseal it after sitting so long, or stroke it, or ???? who knows LOL

Re: First bath for my 71 4x4 in 12 yrs :)

Love that truck!
I really like the factory recessed speakers in the door panel :D

Ive had 3 trucks... a 63 unibody, 69 F100 and a 79 F100... still miss them all!

Looks bad a$$. Keep us updated on what you do with it. Must have felt good to pull out of storage and rinse the years off. I love how "upright" those old shortbed bumpsides look.

Now I'll have some incentive to get going on mine ... need to keep up with you ... maybe have them finised the same time.

Side note: Ross has been telling me about this truck for years, even shown a PIC or two. I had begun to think it was a figment of his imagination.

Now that he is telling EVERYONE and showing recent evidence ... I'm a believer ;)

J/K Ross ... sure looks good, everything you ever said it was :)

LOL

I am pretty excited to get it back with me, although logistically moving 3 toys is going be tougher with each move in the AF :(

Well yesterday some good, some bad....

I found some mice nests, but no mice. Ended up pulling the headliner, doors, door panels, seat, and sucked literally about a 5 gallon pail of mice nesting from inside the cab, all old and dry, must have been from years gone by

No damage done really, amazed too. I had to replace the fuel sender and dome light wire they chewed that went right through the "Taj Mahal" of all the nests

I didnt take pictures, with each fluffy pile I found, I was afraid I'd find life :) so I sucked it up quick and got it out of the house.

Only part I didnt like was in the drivers door jamb, so I put the hose right in there with the door off and door hinges out and flooded it for a while, then baking soda and water mix, let it set, and rinsed again

Seemed awful mice-drippy there LOL but it looks good now and is all back together

12 years of sleep is over!

Game plan is to get it road worthy and take the square tires off LOL then a frame-off true resto after that

That was a great video. I loved the dead rat. Sounds great too. Nice work keeping her going.

I know from my research before buying my '78 that the shortbed bumpsides are pretty desireable.

Should have a good update this weekend

I bought and will hopefully finish up this weekend:
- New 750 vac sec Holley
- New Jet Hot coated Hedman Headers
- New Cobra Lemans Valve covers and Ford repop Hipo chrome air cleaner
- New valve springs and modern Viton valve seals.
- Cleaned, painted and detailed the motor (only has 10K on it or so)
- Cleaned and/or painted all the accessories, vacuum booster, and inner fenders
- Tune up, another oil change, etc
- Fixed the bent pushrod making all the noise

Should have a very nice before/after pic

A few more pics
Waiting on my headers, didnt show yesterday, a different dual feed line, and a backordered repop Ford hipo air cleaner complete with "High Performance 390" sticker
Current air cleaner is temporary, and very ugly needless to say LOL
Still need to detail the lower steering column mount, change around how the heater hoses run, and run the brake booster vacuum hose correctly on the original tie downs to the cowl

FATNFAST, how about doing the thumbnail thing for me one more time then teaching me :)

I have to say, the new headers are very nice, but I will also say, they are no nicer than Thermal Tech in VA that I used on my Mustang, and the Thermal Tech ones may have been slightly more chrome like

Regardless they were packed in a TON of soft wrapping, then bubble wrap, then those air pillows and showed up perfect.
I ordered them on the 28th and they showed up 17 days later.
I am pretty happy with the cost too, the price was 410 total, much cheaper than any other 1/2 ton 4x4 coated header. These are Hedmans, the same header at Jegs is 453.00 coated, Summit, 460 coated, 209 uncoated.

Thermal Tech charges 275 for coating yours, not counting shipping and to buy the headers I would have been well over 500. I really like the Thermat Tech guys and will use them on used stuff, but buying new, seems like Jet Hot is hard to beat

Some pics

Thanks for the compliment, I used to be at least driving distance away in Vegas, now Virginia might be a little far to take a weekend cruise LOL

I like running plug wires, actually any wiring. I go slow and make sure they look decent

However on this one, I had one parked next to it to cheat off of. You can see below, that I am going for a loosely matched pair :)

Got the headers on, all went well. Its sure nice working on a truck instead of the crowded FE Mustang for a change :)

Family stuff pulled me away, so if I can get back to it need to weld the new collectors on, put the PS pump back on, and run two lines

While I was in there I changed all the battery cables to new 0/1 cable.

The final bit remains waiting for Brown to redeliver a defective dual feed line. Then she'll run again :)

Well I hope to have it pretty far along, you'd better get going!

Update for this weekend, true to form with CJ pony parts, after over a month of waiting for my backordered air cleaner and decal, they sent me the air cleaner with a 289 decal in the box instead of the 390 High Performance sticker

Check the pic, does it look like a 289 to you guys?

Anyway, still waiting on a dual feed line from another supplier, and going to start the 3 inch dual exhaust with an X here pretty soon, so no big hurry for a sticker.

Starting to look OK I think :)

Still looking for a fan shroud, and need to come up with a plan for the rear axle (Dana 60 versus 9 inch) but its getting there!

The move from Southern VA to DC in July, is keeping me hopping!
