Was wondering if the power steering box will bolt in place of my manual box in my 71 coupe? My fiance is going to be driving this beast, and with 235s up front, its not exactly th easiest thing to manuever through parking lots. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Depends upon which p/s box you use. The
guts are all Saginaw. The case is Saginaw
but the bolt pattern to the frame rail is
Ford unique. (So you couldn't just slap a
brand X power steering box on)
Hope that helps.
You've gotten my interest! Did the unit leak? if not you've got yourself a trade. Have to gimme a few days to pull the box. This box of mine feels pretty good, I did have to adjust the sector when I got the car, it had gotten way loose over time. Why would ya wanna get rid of power steering if I may ask?
66gt: do you know where i can find replacement parts for it ? my powersteering box has a big gap in it and need some new gears, would be nice to get it a close ratio too ..
If you're talking about the p/s box-
it's GM all the way internally. We just
went over to the General's parts bin and
bought what we needed from the dealer.
The sector shaft is the only Ford unique
part.... and the case itself has the Ford
mounting pattern.
