1977 F150 460 4bbl problems

Grandpa left me a little bit of a problem with his 77 F150. He had replaced the motorcraft carb with an AFB knockoff (which ran great).
To get it smogged, I've needed to buy an rebuilt original Motorcraft.
The hot air choke tubes are missing, so I've adapted something from another Ford engine which looks right. The problem is the choke never warms up! I can't get any heat through the tubes.
It doesn't help that I'm unfamiliar with the arrangement. Any ides?

take the tube off the carb, start the engine and see if its pulling any vacuum at the fitting on the carb.If not you need to thak the choke assy apart and clean it
