Hi Guys,
I am looking to buy a 302 from a 1985 LTD. Can someone let me know if this was a good year for these motors or not. I was told that there are HP variances from year to year. I just want to know if this is a good one to start a build on. I was told a while ago when I was at this that some were low compression motos and some were slightly higher. This is an EFI motor, but I will change to carb.

Thanks!!

It's nothing special to be honest. 180 HP give or take, MIGHT be a roller, might not be. I've seen some that were, others that were not...even in identical cars ('85 Grand Marquis..I bought 2 of them for $50 and got the engines & transmissions out of them, scrapped the rest & still made $$$).

85 mustangs were 210hp roller cam motors, the other 302's are flat tappet motors

Only the 5spd cars were roller cammed in 85.
