MY FATHER IN LAW HAS A 2005 1 TON DUALLY THAT HAS LOST 2 SETS OF WHEEL BEARINGS JUST IN THE LEFT FRONT. He pulls trailers for a living and was curious if anyone else has faced this. There is that chance that things happen and you loose 1 set, but instead of replacing both, the first place only replaced the outer, for the second time it was just the inner. Anyone experience this?
Thanks

Well, I suppose it's like this...
If the Races were replaced with the bearings, he's going to have to loose weight or stop putting gravel in the bearings when he packs them full of grease...

Who's doing the work?
Are they Self sealed bearings or greasable cone type bearings?
Is there a heat problem (like brakes dragging) on that axle.
Etc...

Its being done under warranty at whichever ford dealer he breaks down near (he goes from coast to coast) I asked and he said the second time he was told they went back to the "old style" cone type.

If it's the cone type then he had issues with the installer, the bearings won't just go bad by themselves without foreign influence... I.E. Heat, Water and Debris (metal burrs and dirt/sand) If they are packed properly.
By the way... HEAT is what keeps the bearing grease on the bearings in the first place. When a bearing starts turning it will press the grease away from its'self, Heat warms and softens the grease and after a fashion, move to the bearing surface to keep it lubed...

If i understood this correctly, the outers went out, and were replaced, then the inners went out, and were replaced. What if dirt or something got into grease and ruined both sets of bearings. now hopefully the grease will be clean and he will be fine.

Its a 2-wheel drive. I'm thinking the inners didnt get replaced the first time like they said and there was debree floating around or the inners were damaged from the first go around.
Thanks
