Howdy everyone! Im in the process of installing a low milage 351w into my 63 Galaxie 500. The tired old 223 gave out this summer and Ive decided to go with a bit more power. I dont race the car, just use it as a summer driver. I have the engine and C6 trans from a 78 LTD II in the car which actually went in really smoooth using 289 mounts and drilling new bolt holes for the trans mount. First problem i noticed is the wheels appear to have canted in at the top. I thought the stock original springs could handle the weight (if this is the problem???) Im thinking of going to the local spring shop and getting some heavy duty springs such as the ones used for the 352, 390 etc......would this solve the problem?

Has anyone made this kind of swap out there? Any other tips or clues would be appreciated -

Also since i have the 78 LTD II, i plan on swapping to disc brakes over the winter - the galaxie has manual brakes, just wondering from what car the best dual master cylinder would work if anyone has done this too.

yup, you're most likely going to need those springs to handle the v-8.

FE (352-390) I belive was just a bit heavier. You may want a set of the FE springs but with 1/2 to 1 coil removed for ride height

I have a 64 and did the swap with 78 LTD II. You may want to wait on the spring swap till you find out if the disk brake swap is going to give you a slight positive champer the weaker springs might help out with this check out the post on the disk brake swap.

Thanks - I was looking the car over today, and I guess I was mistaken about the wheels canting in at the tops, the car is just squatting down and with no fenders/inner fenders the tires just looked closer to the upper arms than I thought they should be. Ill wait and see how things look after the spindle change and see if the springs need replaced with ones closer to whats needed.........

On a different note - the Carb that is on my 351w block isnt much good, its not the original, not even sure what it came from - any reccomendations on a good 2bbl carb that i can look for? from what year/model that would link up easiest with the throttle/ kickdown and doesnt have a bunch of pollution stuff?? - also is the vaccum advance neccessary? The auto parts suppliers just laugh around here when I ask if they have any Carbs in stock. Im going to check a few salvage yards and get something that I can rebuild/kit.

Ok ill stop asking questions for today....
